" As you can guess," Delphine was saying as we conjured over the slowly dying Death Eater. "Vomiting is caused by avalanche intoxication of the body. Do not look at his visual torment — he\'s been unconscious for a long time, and his brain shut down almost immediately after the curse began. Pay attention to the peculiarity of the curse, which you can feel in magic all over the body. This is how spontaneous mutations feel. This is what makes the curse irreversible, and its roots grow from chimerology."
We continued to carefully monitor Jugson\'s condition with all available charms, whose hair was already beginning to fall off his head and teeth were beginning to fall out of his mouth.
"Pay attention to the different feeling in magic. It\'s like numbness of the hand, but at the same time, there is a feeling similar to the tension before the sprint. This is how increased regeneration with elements of transfiguration and its instant cancellation is felt — this is what most of the magical capabilities of the still living body are spent on. As soon as spontaneous mutations lead to the inability of the body to generate magic, this function of the curse will disappear. It is impossible to stop because it is impossible to localize the binding point of the curse to the material carrier. Unfortunately, the affected do not live long. Or fortunately."
Suddenly, a piece of grayish flesh with white pus drips slid off Jugson\'s arm and fell to the floor with a nasty slap, spreading slightly.
"That\'s enough."
Hermione didn\'t have to be asked to stop twice, and the girl quickly, I would even say instantly, was a couple of steps away from the test subject. Delphine pointed her wand at the still-alive Jugson.
"Avada Kedavra."
A flash of concentrated green light blinded my eyes for a moment, but nothing visually changed — the rotting body sometimes continued to twitch.
"Evanesco."
The corpse was gone, as was everything associated with it.
"The curse is considered unremovable," Delphine turned to us. "But only a few people know it, trying not to apply it. The important thing is that other curses are based on it, related to putrefaction and decay, but much simpler, easier, and I would even say, safer."
"Carrow was throwing Decay at me. Only I didn\'t understand which one. But it was similar."
"Believe me," smiled Delphine. "In England, it\'s the curse that I, and perhaps a couple of Mungo\'s Healers, know of. It is not local at all, and not even from near abroad. Although, they say that the Dark Lord traveled a lot and could find someone who would show him this curse."
After a more thorough cleaning, we left this hidden place - Delphine took us by portkey to Hogsmeade. The time was still not very late, and the "Three Broomsticks" were still working. That\'s where Lady Greengrass took us. Almost no visitors were left, and Delphine imperceptibly hid us, so no one paid attention to the new visitors. No one except Madame Rosmerta, who immediately hurried over to the table we occupied and clarified the order.
"Hot chocolate. Three mugs. And something sweet but light," Delphine answered for us.
Hermione was still sitting there pale, but not as pale as when we were studying.
"Wasn\'t it too harsh?" I asked into thin air.
"Nothing can shock you. I figured that out a long time ago. But Hermione..."
"Yeah?" the girl looked up from her desk.
"I\'ve noticed more than once that many people who grew up in the ordinary world are under the illusion of security and fairy tale. I suppose it has to do with the fact that society itself creates such an illusion. It\'s not like that in the magical world."
The order was brought to us, and we each took our own mug with a drink. As for sweets, there was a kind of eclairs with a light air cream. Hermione took the mug with both hands, looking thoughtfully at the chocolate, and after a couple of moments, took a few careful sips.
" Yes, it\'s not like that," Delphine continued to say no less thoughtfully. "Of course, we don\'t usually have the threat of the Dark Lords hanging over us, and the killer doesn\'t pop out from around every corner. But as such, there is no security here. Absolutely everyone around you has the opportunity and knowledge to deliver pain, suffering, humiliate with a comic curse, bend you to their will. Of course, there are friends, comrades, and everything else. Therefore, even my teacher of healing magic tried to conduct such a "full immersion". Even pure-bloods like me have been terrified and shocked for a long time… After all, we are all loved and protected by relatives, then a fairly safe school, miracles, and beautiful magic. And then - life, and in it — people. And people are the cruelest creatures."
After having a snack and finishing the hot chocolate, we started to get ready to go back to the castle.
"You have homework. I\'m counting on your perfect memory, so analyze everything you\'ve memorized, feelings, knowledge, and so on. Relate this to the theory and make notes for each class of curses, giving examples of their effects and treatments. As examples, I would like to see other curses from the same categories as those applied today. For each one, I\'d want everything from their manifestations and diagnosis to a detailed treatment plan. There aren\'t too many Death Eaters to keep coming back to the same practice topic."
That was the end of our sit-down, and we left the Three Broomsticks. After putting on a complex of concealing charms, Hermione and I set off at a brisk pace to Hogwarts. We walked in silence.
At the very portrait of the Fat Lady, Hermione took my hand, dispelling the charms.
"I want to become a healer. A scientist-healer. I don\'t know if there is such a field, but I don\'t want there to be incurable curses."
Hugging her, stroked her unruly hair, wanting to calm her down, and received a hug in return.
"Can\'t change it, yes...?"
«As long as there are people in the world,» Rowena added in Palpatine\'s voice, which gave me a hard time holding back an inappropriate chuckle.
