Chapter 387 - Ruckus
On their first day, Evelyn and Heather enjoyed roaming the beautiful places in Seoul. The next day, they went to Contazer cosmetic surgery clinic, which the nerd, Won-Shik, owns. It was early in the morning, yet the hospital waiting room was almost filled.
By the time they stepped out of the hospital after the brief conversation with Won-Shik, Evelyn was famished. Although Heather wanted to talk about Won-Shik, Evelyn cut her off, saying 'we can talk later' and pulled Heather to the nearby restaurant.
Evelyn didnot let Heather talk about him during lunch. Post lunch, they made their way to the hotel. ''Now I all ears, my dear friend.''
''I don't believe he is speaking the truth, Eve,'' Heather said, shoving the new clothes she purchased for Leena. ''Did he really board the cruise ship just to enjoy?''
''We never had any interactions with the nerd while we studied. We have no reason to think that he had plotted against you.'' Evelyn sighed, dropping herself on the bed. ''We are barking up the wrong tree,''
Heather had no reason to disagree with Evelyn's statement. She wondered if she will ever find Leena's biological father in this lifetime. Her heart is full of sadness to dwell upon the happiness she is living now.
Sensing Heather's plight, Evelyn comforted. ''It's fine if we cannot find him, Heather. Nobody can replace Francis in Leena's eyes. I bet she doesn't even care if she knows the truth.''
''You are right..but..''
''Let's keep the matter aside for now.''
Heather smiled, acknowledging Evelyn's point. Soon, they forgot about Leena's father when the matter of Won-Shik returned into the conversation again.
''I never thought he is a very famous cosmetic Surgeon in Korea.'' Heather voiced out her thoughts, amazed by the patient's strength at the hospital. It surprised her that seventy percentage are of youth. Are they that desperate to get under the knife?
''So, you want to take back your words about the nerd?'' Evelyn teased. In moments, she received a stern warning stare from Heather.
Giggling to herself, Evelyn got up and packed the stuff, ready to go back home. They boarded the flight at night, and by the time they reached New York, it was evening.
''Is Rick coming to pick you up?'' Heather asked as they walked side by side towards the restroom.
''No.'' Replied Evelyn, opening the restroom door. ''That lazy must be on energy saving_''
Evelyn paused her thoughts when she noticed the reflection of a woman in the mirror. Puzzled by Evelyn's silence, Heather followed her eyes in Evelyn's direction. A woman was looking straight at Evelyn through the mirror, her face filled with disgust. Being bedridden for a long while, Heather could not recognize the woman at one shot, but her features slowly dawned. Lauren! Evelyn's brother's wife! She knows it would yield no good if Evelyn and Lauren are in one place.
Heather shook Evelyn's hand, who was staring at the woman with the same ferocity. ''Let's go, Eve. We can find another_''
''What a bad Omen!'' Cursing loudly, Lauren turned around, a mock dancing on her lips. ''Just when it seems my life is getting goo, something always comes along to ruin my luck.''
''You are right.'' Evelyn chucked. ''My luck is so bad, people would stop dying if I purchase a cemetery.''
''You!'' Lauren gritted her teeth, pointing her index finger at Evelyn. ''How dare you to talk back to your sister-in-law? You have no_''
''I have no respect, isn't it what you want to tell?'' Evelyn contributed. ''I am tired of hearing the same old dialogues.'' Evelyn lazily stated. She then turned to Heather. ''Let's go, Heather.''
Evelyn didnot give a chance for Lauren to speak. She felt disgusted to even stand at a feet distance from her.
Cursing Evelyn, Lauren angrily stomped out of the restroom. She went to the waiting area and found her son, sitting on the chair, busily scrolling over the phone. ''How dare that woman!''
''Who?'' Ethan questioned, without heaving his head.
''She would be nothing if not she married Fredrick.'' She grumbled again.
Ethan paused and stared at his mother. ''Are you talking about aunt Evelyn?'' Ethan would be least bothered to listen to her mother's rants, but the name Fredrick caught his attention.
''Yes! Bad omen..''
''Wait here. I will be back.'' Ethan hastily got up and left, leaving her speechless.
As Ethan walked towards the exit door, he called Evelyn and at last found her. He noticed another woman standing next to her at a distance. Judging by her features, he doesn't need to ask. It's Leena's mother.
''How are you, Ethan.'' Evelyn glanced up and smiled when he came towards her.
''I am good, aunty.'' He smiled back in return. ''I apologize if my mother misbehaved again.''
''I never considered her a human to bother.'' Evelyn genuinely commented, assuming that Ethan cared less about her remark.
''Well.'' Ethan's smile turned to embarrassment. Quickly, he shifted to another topic. ''How is Harley?''
''Good. She has recovered.'' Evelyn turned to the clueless Heather. ''He is my brother Stephan's son, Ethan.'' She then turned to Ethan. ''She is Heather, Leena's mother.''
''Hello, aunty.'' Ethan nervously gazed at Heather. He could see Leena is her mother's replica. Ethan wondered how she is doing. He has turned into a villain in her eyes in just one day. Her helpless cries still haunt him, pulling him back to the past.
''Hello.'' Heather heard the name several times through Francis but never seen his face. So, he is the one her daughter dated?
''Where are you coming from?'' He asked Evelyn.
''A trip.''
Just in time, Ethan heard the flight announcement. So, he has to leave.
''He is not like his mother at all,'' Heather said.
''I am glad for that.''
''Does he or Stephan know about Harley?'' Heather asked.
''No.'' Evelyn sighed. ''I don't plan to tell them either. I want to keep it a secret.''
Heather nodded, understanding Eveln's point.
''It seems like Lauren is still not over your husband after all these years.'' Heather teased.
''Some people have no shame,'' Evelyn grumbled, reminiscing the days of her youth. Her mother-in-law's first choice for Fredrick was Lauren.. She developed strong feelings for Fredrick, and when they got secretly married, she created a ruckus.
