Chapter 216 - An Angel Appeared
A car break down or is there a hidden meaning behind his actions? Leena was a little scared to meet him but she has already decided to officially break the relationship and there is no going back today. She doesn't want Ethan to dwell in the fantasy of them being together. Besides, she has packed the tools for safety purposes in case he tries to do something.
Leena took a detour, changed the direction of her path, and headed to the location Ethan texted and reached the spot in two hours.
Stepping out of the car, she glanced at the sky. Clouds began to gather in the sky kissing the mountain peaks. The beautiful ocean blue clouds began to change the color into gravel gray. Large pillows of shadows were forming hiding the sun underneath. The cool breeze caressed her skin sending shivers down her body. "I should have brought a jacket," Leena muttered as she scanned the place and to her surprise, she neither found a car nor the man in question.
A couple of people were heading back to their homes. They must have come here to witness the beautiful sight. Halfway down the cliff, a beautiful stream splashes through the trees and it curves gently into the forest. Many people are not aware of this lovely place. Two years ago, Ethan brought her here and proposed to her for the first time.
"Disgusting Bastard!" Her mood spoiled just by thinking of his name. Leena unlocked her mobile to text him and to her awe, there was a message from her mysterious friend.
[I am in Seattle and we are supposed to meet today. Did you forget, Miss Narcissist]
"OMG! I forgot about that part." Leena muttered. After the night of Ethan's assault, she went into a depression and was not in her senses. Now that Leena remembered, she has agreed to meet him today.
Hastily she sent a reply.
[To: Mysterious friend: Are you angry, Mr.Rain?]
She got an immediate response.
[Another name? Let me guess. I texted you when you are watching the rain right?]
[To: Mysterious friend: You are genius, Mr.Rain, but remember this. You can never outsmart me]
[I wouldn't forget you are a Narcissist. By the way, I was waiting for your text from the morning. Did you forget about me after you got a boyfriend]
"Boyfriend?" She chuckled. "A thorn in my life which I am going to pluck it today."
[To: Mysterious friend: Well, I did not forget our meeting. I was occupied with some work. Can we meet tomorrow? I am at the outskirts of the city and I can't make it today.]
[Are you alone? Why did you go to the suburbs?]
Suddenly, the first splatter of rain fell on her mobile and she rushed to take shelter under a tree. What Leena didn't know was, the edge of the cliff was exposed without any sort of fence or sign to alert people.
She stood under the tree and resumed texting.
[To: Mysterious friend: Yeap, alone at the cliff. I am here to meet someone]
[It's not safe at this time. Why don't you go home and then come back tomorrow?]
When Leena was about to text back to reassure him, she heard the sound of the car from the distance and thought it was another couple to enjoy the romantic night but when a woman slowly stepped out of the car, Leena was shocked. "Why did this woman come here?"
"I heard you were involved in a scandal, Leena." Holding an umbrella, Casey slowly headed towards Leena careful enough to not let the mud splatter on her dress. The rain became intense to the point of the sound blurred into the long whizzing noise. With a smile, she stood in front of Leena. "Did you slept with all those men for real?" Casey glanced at Leena with mock innocence
"Was it you? Did you spread the pictures?" Leena doubted this woman. She knew Casey likes Ethan but didn't expect she would turn vicious and destroy her life.
"Well, what if I am and what if I am_"
SLAP!
Leena smacked Casey's cheek.
"Why did you do that!" Screamed Leena.
"If not you were a threat to my love life, I wouldn't have gone far." Casey spat out rubbing her ached cheeks. "You are the reason Ethan doesn't even spare a glance at me. Do you know how painful it is when the most loved person is looking at some other women with love and care?" Tears rained from Casey's cheeks.
"I have not come here to listen to your melodramas. Why did you come here? Where is Ethan?" Leena was getting a strange vibe from Casey's maniac smile that she is no good.
"You still don't know why he is not here?" Casey laughed. "The car break down was a trick to divert you here."
"W_hat!"
"Tell me one thing, Leena!" Casey slowly took a step forward. "Why does a person ask you to meet at the cliff? Looks like you have hurt his ego a lot."
A chill ran down Leena's spine. Did they plan it together? To kill me?
"Look Casey, you are making a big mistake again." As she spoke, Leena took a step forward, and in a frenzy to move out of the place, she didn't see a wedge-shaped stone lying in front of her on the muddy ground. When she took another forward step, her heel drove into the sharp gravel. Leena lost the balance and gasped when her body dropped back abruptly. She tried to hold Casey's hand for support but it was too late. There was nothing that could stop her from falling.
She whimpered when her body hit the rock, it was a cry that was escaping the ears, speaking right into the heart when she tumbled down the cliff.
As if luck was on the side of her bed when her body was ascending down, Leena happens to cross over a big rock that was several feet below the cliff and she held the rock tightly for her dear life.
No one knows this place and she has to rely on herself. Leena couldn't see anything but it doesn't mean she could not feel. Stroking the places with her hands carefully and when she felt either a rock or tree to rely on, she carefully stepped onto it. Slowly Leena climbed up but not before she reached the top, her arms brushed past a giant hand.
"Well, you are quite brave, I must say." She heard a bone-chilling voice of a man
Heart pounded in her ears, her teeth chattered in fear.
"You are not supposed to live as per our madam orders, girl.
"W_ho are you?" She asked.
"Rest in peace."
The man shoved her brutally and nothing could stop her this time. She was shoved beyond her power of endurance.
...
An hour before...
Wilbur arrived home and he straight away walked into Jane's room. "Did she eat anything, Jane?" He asked.
"She did not come out of her room," Jane said. "She is still sleeping, I guess."
"Arrange the dinner. I will bring her," Wilbur went knocked on Leena's door but he did not hear any response. "I am entering into your room, Leena." He unlocked the room and the bed was empty.
"Are you in the bathroom, Leena?" Wilbur skeptically asked but there was no answer. His panic grew, he rushed and searched in the bathroom, balcony. But he didn't find his sister.
"Jane." He screamed and dashed out of the room.
"What happened? Jane asked.
"Leena is not in the room." Wilbur made a call to her but it was not reachable. "Where did she go. Did something happen to her again?"
"I thought she was in the room," Reese whispered.
Wilbur opened his mobile and checked the last location Leena was in. Cliff?
"It's the place Ethan has to take her once," Reese shouted. But why did she go there?
"I will go and bring her back."
"We will come with you." Jane and Reese declared.
"It's raining_"
"Don't stop us, Will. It's our friend." Despite Wilbur's objection, Jane and Reese did not listen, and the trio headed to the cliff.
...
Her body tumbled, hit the trees and branches along the way. Fear became a tangible force that crept over like a hungry beast. Amidst the chaos, she again heard a mysterious cold voice of a woman.
"I have changed my mind. Killing her gives me no sense of satisfaction. Make sure she ends up in the hospital. I want her to be crippled for the whole life."
Her loud cries reverberated to the sky, her silent sobs concealed the loudest screams. Watching over her helpless state, the angels in heaven covered eyes with their hands and sobbed loudly. A profound sadness settled over the earth.
When would I stop falling? Leena wailed. All she remembered was arguing with Casey a couple of minutes ago. How could it have so quickly switched to this?
'Did he hate me to the point of cutting my wings?'
She let herself carried away when she knew today would be the end of her life. The last memory she had was her body lying beside a small stream. Leena had fallen into the stream and that must have saved her life. She was incredibly lucky to not have drowned.
Her body was bleeding, blood oozing out from every part of the body and she lay there semi-conscious close to the bottom end of the cliff, and the last thing before she closed her eyes was a voice.
" Don't close your eyes, little one."
An angel appeared and held her hand.
