Chapter 117: You Assure Me
To intervene or not to intervene?
“Boss, your second brother in the entertainment industry seems to be having a tough time. Even your gift is at risk of being snatched by others, but of course, I won’t let them take it. I’ve already sent them packing.”
Pei Yao covertly fished for some praise.
“His company is incompetent, ignoring such a valuable asset as him and preferring others.”
Professor Qiao = valuable asset.
Lu Zhanxing is Professor Qiao’s biological elder brother, which by approximation makes him a valuable asset too.
If Xingcan Entertainment knew the truth, they’d be green with regret. With their narrow vision, they shouldn’t expect Professor Qiao to hand any resources over to them.
Qiao Yun told him indifferently, “It’s the path he chose for himself, and he needs to walk it on his own.”
“You mean to not intervene?”
Pei Yao was surprised, as he had thought that Professor Qiao, who had given the Lu family several substantial gifts, might have changed her mindset somewhat.
He had overthought it; Professor Qiao was still as rational as ever, still the strict head of the family.
She would not stop you from doing what you want, but she wouldn’t clean up your mess, and of course, copying lines as punishment was inevitable.
“I understand.”
Pei Yao didn’t say much. With Professor Qiao’s position clear, he wasn’t going to intervene, but he decided to still be cautious.
Qiao Yun lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling. After a long while, she got out of bed and pulled the covers back.
She opened the drawer and pulled out her little notebook.
On the last page she wrote, “Lu X, brainless,” and then added, “elder brother, irresponsible.”
Thinking it over, she earnestly added another line: “Grandfather, familial ties are more complex than I imagined. I will keep trying.”

The following morning.
Su Mian got up early. As she went downstairs, she saw Lu Ting sitting on the couch and wondered why she was up so early today.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Then she noticed Lu Ting looked very pale.
She paused, then asked with concern, “Tingting, are you sick? Are you feeling okay?”
“I’m fine, just couldn’t sleep well,” Lu Ting replied with a forced smile.
Su Mian frowned deeply. “Did you not sleep at all last night?”
Lu Ting kept twisting the hem of her shirt and nodded quietly at Su Mian’s question.
“What’s really wrong?” Su Mian sat down next to Lu Ting and asked gently.
Seeing Lu Ting so downcast, she was very worried.
Lu Ting kept her head down and said in a very quiet voice, “Mom, I’m fine, just had a nightmare.”
“Oh, my child, dreams are not real,” Su Mian sighed with relief, thinking something serious had happened, but it was just a nightmare.
Lu Ting bit her lip, looked up at her, her eyes slightly red: “Really? Are dreams just not real?”
“Of course,” Su Mian reassured her.
She couldn’t understand why Lu Ting was so fixated on the nightmare. Could it be that the pressure from her studies was causing her to overthink?
“But…” Lu Ting’s voice choked, “I dreamt that you all didn’t want me anymore, and were going to send me away, even my elder brother didn’t like me.”
“That would never happen,” Su Mian said half-tearfully, half-laughingly.
Although Lu Ting wasn’t her biological child, since she had adopted her, Su Mian naturally took responsibility and would never send her away without reason.
They say that one’s daytime thoughts turn into nighttime dreams. Was she feeling insecure, causing such dreams?
Thinking this, Su Mian grew even more concerned.
“Really?”
Suddenly, Lu Ting hugged Su Mian and, looking towards Qiao Yun coming down the stairs, asked softly, “Mom, promise me that you’ll love me for a lifetime and never let me go, okay?
