Chapter 135: An army a day keeps the doctor away.

He also realised that it probably looked weird from the bother bear\'s point of view. She had just thanked him, and he just blanked out completely as a result, which probably looked really odd. Since he couldn\'t speak, Ark quickly tried out his new skill, and hoped that it would yield some kind of result. He tilted his head slightly, and he stared straight into the mother bear\'s eyes.

The mother bear could feel the wavelengths of mana that entered her brain, and the emotion that was attached to them.

She was actually really surprised at first, since it seemed that the wolf had been able to pick up her skill after she just used it once, but after a second or so, she realised that it was a lot more primitive compared to her own. Even so, the fact that the wolf was able to use this primitive version of her skill after only experiencing it once was actually very shocking.

The feeling that was projected to her was actually a little odd, and it took the mother bear a little while to understand it completely, it was compassion.

The wolf in front of her was actually feeling compassion towards her and her child, which was why it helped them. This was something this mother bear had never felt before, it was a weird feeling, and it wasn\'t something she would usually associate with a magical beast, at least not a random one. If it was a magical beast toward one of its family members, then it wouldn\'t be weird at all.

Compassion toward strangers was more or less a pretty foreign idea to most magical beasts, but the concept of compassion at all was not odd to magical beasts.

With that said, the mother bear couldn\'t just let Ark leave right now. Even if it was pretty much established that he had saved her son, she couldn\'t be too careful, and she wouldn\'t just allow him to leave until she felt a little reassured that her child was fine. "Even though I want to believe you wolf, you can\'t leave until my child has woken up!"

Even though he was a little annoyed, Ark knew that it was his own fault for getting involved with something that didn\'t concern him. It would certainly look weird for him to pop out of nowhere and just help someone based on his compassion, with nothing to gain, and this was her child he was talking about. He would be paranoid too if someone tried to help his child for no benefit or reason.

Especially not while risking his own wellbeing. That wasn\'t to say that the humans could actually endanger him.

Besides, based on his own wild guess, he probably wouldn\'t need to stay here for more than an hour, the small bear was fully healed after all, and was only missing blood. In the case of a human of his own world, this would be a bigger problem, but this was the child of the "King of the Forest" which was a pretty prestigious title, and a little unfitting, considering the bear was a female after all.

After signalling for the cub and the mother to come to him, Ark just laid down on the ground, and waited patiently.

The air in the surroundings was tense, as the numerous wild magical beasts surrounding the plains were starting to grow restless from just standing there. Ark didn\'t mind though, as it was simply in their nature, and he wasn\'t scared of them.

The mother bear knew that she wouldn\'t be able to keep all these magical beasts here forever, but she also didn\'t want to risk anything when her child could be in possible danger, and just let them stand there on standby as a result. Even though she didn\'t expect it, her decision turned out to be correct in the end.

As Ark was resting, he could feel a very faint shake of the ground. At first, he didn\'t even pay attention to such a small detail, but after the shaking was growing more and more intense, he was eventually forced into taking note of the strange events. After about 5 minutes had passed, Ark could also hear loud rumbles in a steady rhythm.

At first he was baffled, but after hearing it for a little while, Ark was able to put two and two together, and he was instantly dejected.

An army. That was all there was to it. What Ark could hear in the distance was an army marching towards them. As for the size and how far away the army was, Ark wasn\'t sure, but the one thing he knew was that the army was certainly big. Just the rumbling itself and the swaying of the trees was enough for the numerous magical beasts to grow fervent, and almost none of them could stay still.

Ark stopped lazing around on the ground, and he stood up in front of the cub and the mother almost instantly.

The mother bear was also quickly alerted, even earlier than Ark was, and in turn, she also stood in front of her own child, intending to protect it from any harm coming its way. Not long passed, and the marching sounds of the army grew louder and louder.

Unlike walking through the trees, this army actually just left destruction in their path, as every tree was decimated to make room for the army that was quickly approaching. Even Ark was growing a little nervous upon hearing the sound of the army approaching for such a long time.

As the trees in front of them were suddenly sent flying with a couple of strong gusts of wind, Ark\'s expression turned a little sour and he instantly conjured up several gusts of wind in retaliation. The trees that were flying toward them were torn to shreds before they could arrive, but Ark was a little mad. Even though he had expected to get attacked, he was still angry.

His once peaceful expression was already a little twisted, but as he felt the fear from the cub behind him, he calmed down a little. Even though he was even angrier since they scared the cute little cub, Ark needed to put on a brave front to make the cub feel even more secure.

If he just let the cub feel afraid then he couldn\'t just blame it on the humans, but also on himself for not reassuring the small cub.

Since that was the case, he took a step back to come closer to the small cub, and he could almost instantly feel that the small cub\'s heartbeat was slowing down considerably.
