Chapter 10
Bai Ye let out a relieved sigh when she realized the beautiful stranger had put his robe over her body. She was glad he was not a pedophile.
The man noted the change in Bai Ye’s breathing and asked with a smirk, “Are you disappointed?”
Bai Ye raised her head. The sudden realization hit her—she could move. Without hesitation, she tried to push the man away but it was akin to having pushed a brick wall. Her strength was insignificant to Yu Jiuchong’s.
He laughed at the fuss the girl made and proceeded to tie the sash of the robe around her waist.
Yu Jiuchong gently tamed the unkempt locks of hair and wiped away the mud around her ears and neck. Throughout the whole process, Bai Ye felt like she was a doll.
It was an unpleasant feeling, being manipulated and maneuvered without her explicit permission. This rebellious streak of hers got her into trouble a long time ago. She was hunted by the World Government for her disobedience.
At this moment, Bai Ye submitted herself to the man’s touch. The reason being she was too weak to fight back and she was curious as to what the man wanted.
Yu Jiuchong was satisfied with the girl’s submissiveness but he knew it was just a facade. If she was at her full strength, there was no doubt she would go for his throat.
Once he was satisfied with his handiwork, he handed Bai Ye a jade badge. “Hold onto this.”
The girl took the item without a word.
“The Erudition Trials will be held in a month. You’ll take part in it with this participation badge,” Yu Jiuchong explained. “Entering the courts is the only way you can shed your past.”
Finally, Bai Ye opened her mouth to speak. “What do you want with me?” If this participation badge granted her freedom from Qing Xuantian’s influence, what would this man want in return? He would definitely want something significant in exchange.
Yu Jiuchong laughed. He stroked her mud-caked head with care and said, “I’ll let you know when you’re in Imperial City.”
Bai Ye stared at the man, more specifically, his sensual lips. She pocketed the badge and turned to leave.
“I’ll be waiting for you,” Yu Jiuchong said with a bright smile. He was confident Bai Ye would turn up for The Erudition Trials.
Bai Ye did not respond. Although her pace was steady, her heart was racing. She knew the man had the ability to stop her from leaving.
Yu Jiuchong did not follow her.
Bai Ye managed to walk all the way to the edge of the forest before she turned around. The dangerous and enigmatic man was no longer there.
He was gone.
The tension in her body left her and she exhaled heavily. She did not want to admit she was afraid of the man. Little did she know, Yu Jiuchong was still around the area.
Suddenly, she heard a familiar shout. “Little Ye!”
