Chapter 477: 476 Strange calls
Wen Ran looked at him with a smile, holding her medicine without hurry to drink it.
Mo Xiuchen gave her a gentle smile, tilted his head back, and gulped the entire bowl of medicine. After a moment, he showed her the empty bowl and teased, “I’ll have to check with Ah Kai tomorrow if this medicine is fake, it doesn’t taste bitter anymore.”
Wen Ran was taken aback and then laughed.
She took a gulp of her own medicine, which was undeniably bitter.
Acting as if she was angry, Wen Ran glared at Mo Xiuchen before finishing the remaining medicine. Without missing a beat, Mo Xiuchen quickly stuffed a sugar cube into her mouth, took her hand and led her to the sofa, smiling, “It doesn’t taste bitter now, right?”
“Mmhmm.”
“Ranran, take a rest. I’ll take the bowls away.”
Mo Xiuchen got up and left the bedroom with the tray.
As Wen Ran watched his lofty figure vanish at the bedroom door, layers of warmth filled her watery eyes.
**
The next day, Wen Ran returned to work at the company. Having her by his side gave Mo Xiuchen a sense of security. Every time he looked up, he could see her.
Words were not necessary; a glance or a smile conveyed their tender affection. Every once in a while, Mo Xiuchen would get up to massage Wen Ran for a few minutes.
There had been no ripples of conflict for three days.
With Mo Xiuchen constantly beside her, Wen Ran was spared from idle gossip and unpleasant sights.
One afternoon, while Mo Xiuchen was massaging Wen Ran as usual, Luo Haofeng barged in, unintentionally disrupting their cozy moment. Instead, he played innocent, “Oh dear, Mo Xiuchen, Wen Ran, how can you both be so public with your affections during the day in the office? Is anyone else even allowed in?”
“Are you just going to walk in without knocking?”
Wen Ran glared at Luo Haofeng, Mo Xiuchen responded with a low chuckle, “If you’re envious, find someone to be affectionate with. I have no objections.”
Luo Haofeng was choked by his words and fell silent.
Walking to Mo Xiuchen’s desk, he threw some documents onto it and, with a smirk, said lightly, “I heard that Cheng Jia and the others will be back soon, right? When will they arrive?”
Wen Ran was startled, “Cheng Jia is coming back?”
She wasn’t aware.
In the past few days, although she had been in the company, Mo Xiuchen did not allow her to do any work. He took care of her job, and had his work handled by Mo Zixuan.
Only when there were things Mo Zixuan couldn’t handle, would he personally take care of them.
Mo Xiuchen gave a cold glare at someone who spoke too much and lightly said, “Yes, they were initially sent for a training period of three months, and will return after a week.”
“Wen Ran, if I were you, I would simply take Mo Xiuchen and leave to avoid Cheng Jia salivating over your husband when she returns!”
Luo Haofeng offered this suggestion.
Wen Ran let out a chuckle and replied calmly, “Mo Xiuchen isn’t as flirtatious as you. Even if Cheng Jia were to throw herself at him, he wouldn’t accept. What do I have to worry about?”
“When did I become flirtatious?”
Luo Haofeng was discontent and gave them a cold look. This couple was not only on the same wavelength but their words were poisonous too.
“Aren’t you the self-proclaimed ‘dashing and gallant handsome man’?” Wen Ran looked at him with amusement, “The woman who asked you out for dinner yesterday is from the public relations department, right? Quite pretty.”
Luo Haofeng clicked his tongue and raised an eyebrow, proudly boasting like a rooster, “Every day I get asked out by beauties. If I accepted every single one, how would I handle it? So, I didn’t accept any of them. I had dinner with Ah Mu last night. If you don’t believe it, you can ask Ah Mu.”
“Ask me what?”
Qin Mu’s voice came from the office entrance.
He had just walked in, right when Luo Haofeng had mentioned him.
Wen Ran looked amused, “Luo Haofeng just said that he didn’t spend last night with the beauty who had asked him out for dinner, and you can attest to it.”
“Really? It seems like I went home right after work last night.”
Qin Mu’s face was calm, and his words showed no trace of lying. Luo Haofeng changed color upon hearing this, “Ah Mu, you can’t lie on my behalf.”
Qin Mu blinked innocently at Luo Haofeng, who was visibly upset, “Last night, I really did go home right after work. Could it be that my memory is failing me?”
“Haha, Luo Haofeng, just admit it. Even if you do, there’s nothing shameful about it. When you get married someday, I’ll definitely send you a large gift.”
Wen Ran couldn’t help laughing. Noticing her radiant smile, Qin Mu quickly averted his gaze. He told Luo Haofeng, “I have something to discuss with you.”
Luo Haofeng’s mood was ruined by their teasing, “I’m not interested now, I’m going to meet a beauty.” With that, he stormed out of the office.
Qin Mu followed Luo Haofeng out of the office. Before closing the door, he gave a meaningful look to Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Xiuchen massaged Wen Ran for another two minutes before his elongated fingers left her shoulders. He gently said, “Ranran, take a rest. I’ll be right back.”
Wen Ran smiled and nodded, “You go ahead. I’ll just finish reading this report.”
“Don’t overwork yourself.”
Mo Xiuchen leaned down to peck her cheek before leaving the office.
Wen Ran continued reading the report she had barely started. The office felt exceptionally quiet with only her. She was so engrossed in her work that when her phone rang, the sudden noise startled her.
The display showed an unfamiliar number. Wen Ran’s brow furrowed in hesitation as she looked at the phone for a few seconds before finally answering, “Hello?”
“Girl, don’t you recognize who I am?”
From the phone came an old voice laced with a chilling undertone that gave Wen Ran a shiver, despite it being broad daylight. Shocked, she responded, “You must have the wrong number, I don’t know you.”
“Haha, you do know me. I raised you for six years and wasted a lot of precious medicine. There’s still poison in your body that only I can clear. Before I tell you my identity, let me first tell you a secret…”
Wen Ran’s slender body abruptly stood up from the chair. Her abrupt movements knocked her leg on the office desk. The pain, or perhaps the caller’s words, caused her already pale face to turn as white as a sheet of paper.
Her whole body was trembling, especially the hand holding the phone. The voice that came out of her was sharp and unfamiliar, “You’re talking nonsense, I won’t believe you!”
Not possible, it can’t be…
She reassured herself over and over again, moving her hand to hang up the call. The man on the other end seemed to understand her thoughts, “Girl, it’s useless for you to hang up the call. What I said is all true. Let me tell you another secret that no one knows…”
