Chapter 407: 406 I know you won’t be fooled
“Ranran, give Xiaoxiao a call and ask her about her conversation with Mo Xiuchen.”
The white Porsche drove steadily towards Kangning Hospital. Wen Jin, in the driver’s seat, held the steering wheel with his strong hand, his gaze focused straight ahead.
Next to him, Wen Ran lounged in the passenger seat, stealing glances outside. As soon as her brother left the house, he deliberately avoided taking the route where they might bump into Mo Xiuchen.
Without turning his head, Wen Jin caught a glimpse of Wen Ran through the rearview mirror and spoke casually.
“Alright!”
Wen Ran took out her phone and dialed Bai Xiaoxiao. After it rang twice, Xiaoxiao’s voice came through. “Ranran, what kind of hide-and-seek game are you playing with Mo Xiuchen? He just called, asking if you were at my place.”
“What did you tell him?”
Wen Ran paused, worried about Mo Xiuchen. He had called Bai Xiaoxiao and hadn’t tried calling her again.
“I told him yes, you’re here. Ranran, you’re not up to something naughty, deceiving Mo Xiuchen, are you?”
Bai Xiaoxiao laughed over the phone.
“Did you tell him I was at your place?”
Wen Ran was taken aback. Xiaoxiao was playing along perfectly.
“Yes, as soon as he got on the line, he asked for you…”
When she hung up, Wen Jin laughed triumphantly. “Haha, even Mo Xiuchen gets fooled sometimes. Ranran, I wonder what his face will look like when he goes to Xiaoxiao’s house and doesn’t find you.”
Wen Ran’s mouth twitched, “You guys are too much. I feel sorry for Xiuchen.”
“Sorry?”
Wen Jin turned to look at her queerly. “Ranran, why would you use the word ‘sorry’ to describe Mo Xiuchen? He’s never been the pitiful sort, only scheming and treacherous. Luo Haofeng, Qin Mu, and Gu Kai, there’s not one of them who doesn’t want to give him a taste of his own medicine.”
“Is he that unpopular with you all?”
Wen Ran pouted. These guys without girlfriends all envied Xiuchen. It seemed she had to make an effort to find them girlfriends.
“It’s not that he’s disliked, but his smugness is hard to stomach.”
Wen Jin was suppressing a big grin. To Wen Ran, his happiness was over the moon.
“Brother, Older Brother Gu said that he’ll tell me what kind of girl he likes and asked me to help him find one. You tell me too, what sort of girl do you want as my sister-in-law? I promise each of you will have a satisfactory choice.”
Wen Ran looked at Wen Jin with a big grin.
Wen Jin gave her a sidelong glance. His smile faded, and he said seriously, “I’m driving right now, don’t distract me with such talk.”
Wen Ran pouted, “Alright, tell me once we reach the hospital.”
The first person to spot Mo Xiuchen was Wen Ran.
When they arrived at the hospital, Wen Jin was chuckling, “Mo Xiuchen should be at Bai Xiaoxiao’s house by now.”
According to the time it took to get there, Mo Xiuchen should have just arrived at Bai Xiaoxiao’s.
But as Wen Jin’s words fell, Wen Ran suddenly widened her eyes, staring out the car window. A few car spaces away in the parking lot, a handsome man was leaning against an Aston, his gaze deep and features delicate under sunlight, radiating an enticing glow. He was so attractive it was hard to look away.
She rolled down the window, and Mo Xiuchen immediately flashed a smile.
From a distance, he looked at her with a warm gaze, clearly recognizing Wen Jin’s car as it entered his line of sight.
“Ranran, what are you looking at?”
Noticing Wen Ran’s unusual behaviour, Wen Jin turned his head and followed her gaze. For a moment, he exclaimed in surprise, “Mo Xiuchen, why is he at the hospital? Shouldn’t he be at Bai Xiaoxiao’s house?”
With a bright smile in her eyes, Wen Ran responded with a hint of pride color his words, “He didn’t fall for it, brother. Your and Older Brother Gu’s plan has failed.”
Mo Xiuchen straightened elegantly and approached them with long strides. Wen Ran got out of the car and walked towards him with a beaming smile.
Wen Jin sat in the car in a daze, one hand clutching the steering wheel, the other still fastened seat belt, watching the two drawing closer. He couldn’t see Wen Ran’s face, but he had a clear view of Mo Xiuchen’s expression.
His gaze shifted, and a grin spread across his face, carrying a hint of appreciation. Mo Xiuchen was indeed Mo Xiuchen, not only was he admired by Ranran, but he was a man that any woman would undoubtedly fall in love with.
“Xiuchen, weren’t you supposed to be at Xiaoxiao’s house?”
From a few steps away, Wen Ran asked with a bouncy smile.
Mo Xiuchen’s mouth curved in a gentle smile and looked deep into Wen Ran’s proud and beautiful eyes. He stepped forward, took her hand, and spoke with mild reproof in his voice, “You actually teamed up with your brothers to deceive me.”
Wen Ran laughed cheekily, “I knew you wouldn’t fall for it.”
Looking into her eyes, Mo Xiuchen’s gaze darkened. He tightened his grip on her hand, his smile deepening, “And what if I had?”
“No way.”
Wen Ran said with confidence. She knew that flattery would get her everywhere.
“Alright, since you trust me so much, I’ll forgive you.”
He looked up at Wen Jin who was getting out of the car and turned back to look at the hospital entrance. Gu Kai was just coming out. Seeing him, he lifted an eyebrow at him before turning to Wen Ran, “Ranran, why did Gu Kai ask you to come to the hospital?”
Wen Ran blinked, glancing over his shoulder at Gu Kai standing at the entrance. He looked tall and handsome with his hands nonchalantly in his pockets, his white coat fluttering in the wind.
“Older Brother Gu called me to the hospital to discuss his girlfriend criteria. He wants me to help him find one.”
Mo Xiuchen’s eyes sparked at her answer. He chuckled and said, “I see. Well, make sure to ask him carefully about all his conditions in one go. Don’t worry. If you fail to find someone, I’ll help you. I guarantee he will lead a full life, with no time to interfere with us anymore.”
Wen Ran narrowed her eyes. No matter how she interpreted it, Mo Xiuchen seemed to have a scheme.
“No wonder Older Brother Gu and my brother are so dissatisfied with you. You’ve made a lot of enemies, so you better not do things that will give them more reasons to complain.”
Wen Ran said this quite fairly.
“They’re not dissatisfied, they’re just jealous. Because I have you while they are all single. I’m doing this for their own good. Not only Gu Kai, but also Wen Jin. Once he’s married, he won’t need you to help him with chores.”
Mo Xiuchen laughed dismissively. The more they were dissatisfied, the more pleasure he derived.
“Ranran, I’ve already told dad that you’ll be coming home tonight. He was really happy and said he will definitely be home for dinner. Xiuchen, weren’t you going to pick up Ranran? How come you’re still here?”
Behind them, Gu Kai’s leisurely voice rang out.
