Chapter 393: How will you reward me?
Chapter 393: How will you reward me?
That noon, the company held its last meal together. In the afternoon, Mo Xiuchen put off all his tasks to go shopping with Wen Ran.
“Ranran, have you thought of what you’d like to buy?”
Mo Xiuchen held Wen Ran’s hand, walking on the bustling streets. The crowds were overwhelming at all hours of the day during this period.
He was careful not to let her get jostled by the crowds. Qing Feng and Qing Yang followed at a distance, ensuring her safety since the day they were assigned to protect her. They were cautious wherever she went, and this vigilance never waned.
Those days were tranquil, but their alertness was unyielding.
There was no news of Xiao Wenqing and Wu Tianyi. They appeared in City B briefly and disappeared again. As the Chinese New Year approached, Mo Xiuchen became more careful. Based on his understanding of Xiao Wenqing and Wu Tianyi, he knew they wouldn’t remain idle during the holiday.
“I can’t think of anything particular to buy. Let’s just see what we come across. If we don’t come across anything we like, we won’t buy anything.”
It had been a long time since Wen Ran had last gone shopping, especially with Mo Xiuchen accompanying her. She was both excited and delighted.
She looked around; this street was filled with festive Chinese New Year goods, bustling with activity.
Even without buying anything, just being out and soaking up the festive atmosphere was enjoyable.
Mo Xiuchen gazed at Wen Ran’s radiant smile with a tender look, a perfect curve on his lips. “Okay, you’re the boss this afternoon. We’ll buy as much as you want.”
“Xiuchen, you are so nice!”
Wen Ran grinned and pointed at a shop selling handwritten couplets. “Let’s take a look. Xiuchen, do you know how to write with a calligraphy brush?”
Mo Xiuchen’s handwriting was beautiful, vigorous, graceful, and full of character. But she didn’t know if he could do calligraphy.
Mo Xiuchen followed her gesture and saw an old man sitting at a desk, writing a couplet. His eyes lit up with a smile, “Ranran, do you want me to write with a calligraphy brush?”
“If you know how to.”
Wen Ran blinked her eyes playfully, prompting a hearty laugh from Mo Xiuchen. “Alright, but what reward do I get if my writing satisfies you?”
Wen Ran was startled by Mo Xiuchen’s captivating smile. When others started looking at them, she lowered her voice, “What reward do you want?”
A calculating glint flashed in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes, his smile showing a touch of mischief. He leaned down and whispered in her ear,”Tonight, you top, I bottom!”
Wen Ran’s face turned crimson.
She didn’t know whether it was because of his warm breath on her ear or the implications of his words. Her heartbeat raced and she glared at him, pouting dismissively.
“Ranran, do you still want me to write?”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips held a profound smile as he teased. Regardless of Wen Ran’s expression, he was deeply enchanted, his eyes twinkling at her.
“Only if it satisfies me.”
Wen Ran was not willing to back down, raising her chin like a queen.
“Deal!”
Mo Xiuchen readily agreed and led her towards the shop, shouting to the others around the table, “Excuse me, please!”
It really had its benefits to be handsome.
Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran, an attractive couple, exuded an air of nobility and grace without even speaking. The others yielded a path to them upon seeing them.
The elderly man at the table had just finished a verse when he looked up at Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran, his eyes flashing as he asked, “President Mo and Mrs. Mo, would you like to write a couplet?”
Wen Ran blinked in surprise. How did this old man know them during this busy season?
Mo Xiuchen asked with a polite smile, “Sir, I would like to borrow your paper, ink, brush and inkstone to write a couplet. I will pay according to your price here.”
The people around them didn’t know who Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran were at first. Just finding their faces familiar. But upon hearing the old man, they murmured among themselves. Someone said, “They are the President and the first lady of MS Group. I saw them on TV. They are even more handsome and beautiful in person.”
The old man looked at Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran with sharp eyes, stood up cheerfully, and offered them his spot. “President Mo, please feel free.”
Mo Xiuchen took the brush from him. “Sir, you don’t need to stand up. I can write while standing.”
Mo Mansion
When Mo Zixuan returned, Mo Jingteng was smoking alone in the living room.
The living room was cold and empty; even the bodyguards weren’t by his side.
Mo Zixuan entered the living room with a forced smile and asked, “Dad, why are you smoking alone here? The weather outside is nice today. I’ll accompany you for a walk in the yard.”
Mo Jingteng looked up at Mo Zixuan, “Have you been in contact with your mother?”
Mo Zixuan was taken aback, shaking his head, “Dad, my mom hasn’t contacted me since she left. Why are you asking all of a sudden?”
Mo Jingteng snorted coldly, “If she contacts you, you must tell me.”
“I know.”
After Mo ZiXuan replied, he sat down beside Mo Jingteng and casually asked, “Dad, did you know Wen Ran is not Wen Hongrui’s daughter?”
About to take a puff on his cigarette, Mo Jingteng startled at his words, his sharp eyes fixated on Mo Zixuan, “Wen Ran isn’t Wen Hongrui’s daughter? Who told you that?”
Ever since Mo Xiuchen revealed to the reporters about Xiao Wenqing’s affair, Mo Jingteng had not left the house. Even for company matters, he gave his instructions over the phone.
A hint of cold smile flashed in Mo Zixuan’s eyes. “Dad, I knew about Wen Ran’s background a long time ago. Do you remember when Zhou Lin and I went to F City for our wedding photos? At that time, Zhou Lin stayed in F City to investigate Wen Ran’s background.”
Mo Jingteng narrowed his eyes abruptly. “Why didn’t you mention it before?”
Mo Zixuan’s face changed, his voice tinged with reluctance, “At that time, for some reasons, I didn’t get a chance to say. Later, my mom wiped my memory of Wen Ran. It was only a few days ago that I remembered again. These days, I investigated Wen Ran again and found out that she is Gu Yan’s daughter.”
Shock registered on Mo Jingteng’s face.
“Old Gu’s daughter?”
His relationship with Gu Yan wasn’t as close as that between Mo Xiuchen and Gu Kai. Nevertheless, they did know each other for decades and could be considered old friends.
Gu Kai’s wife had sorely missed their missing daughter and eventually died of depression.
“Could it be… Wen Ran is the little girl who saved Xiuchen back then?”
