Chapter 301: 300 She wants to give birth to the child.
Ever since Bai Xiaoxiao was discharged from the intensive care unit, Wen Ran had been taking care of her in the hospital all day, driving Mo Xiuchen back to the company.
That evening, as usual, Little Liu brought dinner for Wen Ran and Bai Xiaoxiao. Sitting by Bai Xiaoxiao’s sickbed telling her stories, Wen Ran stood up to receive the food when she saw Little Liu walk in.
“Little Liu, what’s wrong? You seem down and out, as if you’ve just had your heart broken.”
Wen Ran took the insulated food box, her eyebrows slightly furrowed, and looked at Little Liu with concern. It seemed as if someone had slapped him on his left cheek, leaving a faint imprint of fingers. It wasn’t very noticeable unless you were up close.
Little Liu’s eyes darted to avoid Wen Ran’s probing gaze. He lowered his head and said in a muffled voice, “Miss, if there is nothing else, may I go?”
“Wait up!”
Wen Ran’s eyebrows knitted together as she stopped Little Liu from walking away. His attempt to avoid eye contact only proved his guilt.
Little Liu, with his tall and bulky frame, stiffened and refused to turn around to face her.
Wen Ran put the insulated box on the bedside table, walked up to Little Liu, and stared at him sharply. “Is something wrong? Did you get into a fight with Tong Shishi, or—”
Little Liu’s complexion shifted as he continued to keep his lips sealed in silence.
After a pause, Wen Ran finished her sentence, “Did Cheng Jia come looking for you?”
Upon hearing this, Little Liu’s pupils dilated, letting Wen Ran know that her guess was right.
“What did she want? Or did she start harassing you again after seeing you with Tong Shishi?”
Wen Ran analysed the possibilities critically. Given Cheng Jia’s twisted nature, she would not be able to resist causing trouble if she saw Little Liu with another woman, especially after failing to win him over.
Little Liu’s face changed again. He could no longer bear Wen Ran’s sharp gaze and admits, “Miss, Cheng Jia… she’s pregnant.”
“What?”
Wen Ran’s eyes widened in shock as she stared at Little Liu, trying to process his words – Cheng Jia was pregnant, and Cheng Jia had been with him…
“When did she tell you?”
Wen Ran exhaled and asked the question calmly.
On the bed, Bai Xiaoxiao was wearing a face full of astonishment too.
“It was… it was the night of Miss Bai’s car accident. Cheng Jia fell and went to the hospital herself. Later, she phoned me… Miss, you just mentioned she might have seen me with Shishi?”
Little Liu suddenly understood why Cheng Jia had called him. “Because of Shishi’s mother being hospitalized, I picked her up from the hospital that night. Perhaps, Cheng Jia really did see, just like you guessed.”
“So, she wants you to take responsibility?”
Wen Ran’s eyebrows furrowed tighter. If her speculation was true…
Then from the beginning, Cheng Jia must never have intended to let Little Liu or anyone else find out.
She was not interested in Little Liu and therefore would not wish to marry him. If she did marry Little Liu, there would be no hope for her.
So, she suggested the breakup with Little Liu in order to get closer to Mo Xiuchen step by step. Perhaps she believed that she could stand beside Mo Xiuchen one day with her own abilities and hard work.
However, she ended up getting pregnant and, coincidentally, saw Little Liu with another woman.
“She didn’t. She just said that even if I don’t want the child, she would still give birth to it.”
Little Liu had been distressed these past few days. He was not a heartless person, and in fact, he rather liked children. The baby that Cheng Jia was carrying was his own, and he could not sever ties.
“About your face, what happened?”
Changing her tone, Wen Ran asked another question. Little Liu only hung his head lower. “This afternoon, Cheng Jia called me, saying that she felt discomfort in her abdomen. I took her to the hospital, and Shishi saw us there.”
“Tong Shishi hit you?”
“It serves me right!”
Little Liu didn’t blame Tong Shishi. He hadn’t known how to tell her these last few days and hence, had kept it a secret all this while.
“What else did she say?”
“She said, she wants to break up with me.”
“Ranran, are you still thinking about Little Liu and Cheng Jia’s affair?”
After Little Liu left, Wen Ran was feeding Bai Xiaoxiao. Seeing Wen Ran’s furrowed brows, Bai Xiaoxiao asked with concern.
Wen Ran sighed, “Perhaps Mo Xiuchen made a mistake. He shouldn’t have gotten Little Liu and Cheng Jia involved in the first place.”
Bai Xiaoxiao recalled the incident from that morning, the day when they watched a play. At that time, when Little Liu had protected Cheng Jia, she thought that perhaps a night’s deliberation had made Little Liu come to like Cheng Jia which could even lead to him falling in love with Cheng Jia in the future.
Unexpectedly, in the end, Little Liu fell in love with another woman.
“Ranran, you don’t need to worry so much. Cheng Jia’s target was never Little Liu but rather your Mo Xiuchen. Even if she wanted to break up Little Liu and Tong Shishi’s relationship, it would only be temporary. After a while, she would lose interest herself.”
Wen Ran didn’t agree with this perspective. Cheng Jia’s mission was already accomplished within a short period of time.
Bai Xiaoxiao gave her a look: “Think about it, will Cheng Jia really give birth to that child?”
Wen Ran pursed her lips: “It’s hard to say. Maybe, after experiencing the benefits of using the child, she might actually plan to continue to take advantage of Little Liu. After that, with the child as a backup, Little Liu’s attitude towards her will certainly be different.”
“No!”
Bai Xiaoxiao shook her head.
“If she gets pregnant and gives birth, putting aside changes in her body shape, and the difficulty of maintaining her current beauty, just consider the ten months of pregnancy, followed by breastfeeding. At least for two years, she won’t be able to charm men.”
“And Cheng Jia, every minute and second, is trying to lure your Mo Xiuchen. She definitely would not do such a loss-making business.”
Wen Ran’s eyes flashed as if she finally saw some reason in this.
Bai Xiaoxiao let out a light laugh: “Ranran, believe me, in a while, Cheng Jia will come up with some excuse for a miscarriage or something and abort the child. She would not let her dreams be crushed because of a man like Little Liu.”
“If she really does do so, it would be so pitiful for the child.”
Wen Ran had an inexplicable fondness for children and found acts like abortion especially despicable.
“You, it’s a good thing that you’re not an obstetrician or a maternity nurse. Otherwise, seeing people getting abortions all day, you might just die from a broken heart.”
Bai Xiaoxiao teased.
“It’s just that I think that such acts are too irresponsible. If you don’t want children, you should take precautions right from the start. You can’t just enjoy the moment and end up hurting the innocent little life as a result.”
“Hmm, I can agree to this point.”
Bai Xiaoxiao gently nodded and looked at her bowl, “Ranran, do you want me to continue having dinner?”
Wen Ran was suddenly startled, a spark of apology flashed across her face, and she immediately fed another spoonful of porridge into Bai Xiaoxiao’s mouth. “Why wouldn’t I let you have dinner? Nanny Zhang spent nearly seven to eight hours cooking this soup from scratch. You should eat more.”
“Nanny Zhang’s cooking skills are really excellent. Ranran, I guess if I continue eating her food, I won’t want to eat the food cooked by my own mother later.”
Bai Xiaoxiao had only eaten Nanny Zhang’s cooking for a few days, and she was already a fan.
