Chapter 233: 232 Please give me another chance

Cheng Jia stared at her phone for a while, realizing that she could not wait any longer for MO Xiuchen to take the initiative to reach out to her. Instead, she had to actively seek him out and make her feelings clear.

She was willing to follow his advice, correct her faults, and start all over, hoping he’d see her in a different light.

Yet, her calls rang once, twice, but no one answered.

With each ring, her heart tightened as if being jerked by a rope, the discomfort escalating until the dial tone abruptly cut off, snapping the taut rope.

Pursing her lips tightly, she rose to her feet, went into her room, chose the prettiest dress to wear, and carefully applied her makeup at the vanity before leaving with her bag in hand.

Half an hour later, a red cab pulled over in front of the MS Group Building. Cheng Jia paid the fare, got out of the car, and looked up at the imposing building. Subconsciously clutching her bag’s strap, she took steps towards the office building in her three-inch heels.

She had previously worked here and had been at home resting after her injury. Today, no one stopped her, and she was able to move freely.

Exiting the elevator, Cheng Jia spotted MO Xiuchen accompanied by several clients emerging from a conference room at the end of the corridor. Luo Haofeng was by his side, cordially shaking hands with the clients and speaking to them. His demeanor was handsome, his smile gentle, albeit far from the warmth and fervor he showed towards Wen Ran.

The clients, accustomed to his frosty but sophisticated bearing, still shook hands with him with smiles on their faces. After their farewells, Luo Haofeng escorted them out.

From a distance of about ten meters, MO Xiuchen stood tall in the spacious and bright corridor, hands shoved into his trouser pockets, casting an indifferent glance towards Cheng Jia.

Meeting his cool and piercing gaze, Cheng Jia’s heart skipped a beat. Wetting her lips, she exerted herself to control her accelerating heartbeat while making her elegant way towards him.

“Young Master MO, I tried calling you earlier, but you didn’t answer as you were busy. So, I decided to take a cab here,” she said.

Cheng Jia stopped short two steps away from MO Xiuchen, looking at him with a tender smile.

In contrast to the delight and excitement surging within her, MO Xiuchen’s face remained impassive. He only gave a nonchalant “hmm” and then proceeded to his office, pushing the door open and entering. Cheng Jia didn’t hesitate and followed him into the office.

“Have your injuries fully healed?”

MO Xiuchen spoke without turning around to look at Cheng Jia. Instead, he strode directly to his mahogany desk, pulled back his executive chair and sat down.

Cheng Jia stood in front of the desk, her eyes full of gentle warmth as she looked at the man behind the desk. She hadn’t seen him for quite a few daysnot since the night he’d warned her at the hospital-until now.

She had heard that he’d been injured in City C recently. Looking at him now, there seemed to be no sign of ill health. He looked as he always did. Clearly, Wen Ran had taken good care of him.

The thought of Wen Ran in City C, faithfully attending his bedside while she herself could only pine away at home, renewed the acute pain in her heart. Biting down on her lip, she softly said, “Young Master MO, I heard you were injured some time ago. Have you recovered? You should rest more, instead of returning to work right away.”

“It was a minor injury, nothing to worry about.”

MO Xiuchen picked up the thermal mug beside him, unscrewed the lid, took a sip of water, and put the lid back on. He then placed the mug back on the desk and reached for the mouse, his brows furrowed as he stared at his computer screen.

Seeing him regard her as invisible, Cheng Jia felt a twinge in her heart. She took the initiative to ask, “Young Master MO, did Little Liu pass on the message I left for you and Miss Wen?”

“Hmm, he relayed it.”

MO Xiuchen answered without looking up, his slender fingers released the mouse, flying nimbly over the keyboard. His handsome features and focused gaze were mesmerizing.

Cheng Jia watched, entranced, momentarily forgetting her purpose of coming.

It was only when MO Xiuchen’s fingers left the keyboard after sending an email, and he lifted his head to find her staring at him, that she snapped back to reality. He frowned slightly, a trace of disgust flickering through his deep-set eyes. His voice turned a notch colder, “Anything else?”

Finally regaining her senses, Cheng Jia flushed, embarrassed. Seeing his evident annoyance, she felt a pang of alarm and quickly explained, ‘Young Master MO, I have something to say.”

“Speak,” he encouraged, his tall figure leaning back in his office chair, an icy expression on his face.

Young Master MO, I’ve given it a lot of thought these past few days, and I have identified my previous mistakes. I’d like to ask for another chance, I’m willing to correct my flaws.”

“So, you had Little Liu convey to us that Zhou Mingfu was the murderer who killed her parents?”

MO Xiuchen’s deep eyes narrowed sharply, focusing on Cheng Jia, who flinched. Her voice faltering, tinged with anxiety, “Young Master MO, everything I said is true.”

MO Xiuchen’s eyes softened, indifferent once more, “I’m not saying I don’t believe you. It’s just a bit strange that you chose to bring this up only after Zhou Mingfu’s death. Without any concrete evidence, believing you won’t do any good.”

What he meant was that she had to present proof to make everyone believe her.

Cheng Jia’s face turned a shade paler, and she reluctantly replied, “I overheard it by accident, and even though I have no evidence, everything I said is true.

Miss Wen’s Darents were killed bv Zhou Mingfu, who initiallv had planned to

harm their entire family. It is only due to Young Master Wen’s protective measures that Miss Wen was able to escape unharmed.”

MO Xiuchen quirked a corner of his mouth, revealing a trace of mockery. He looked at her with a piercing gaze, yet remained silent.

Cheng Jia’s heart pounded in her chest. She unconsciously clenched her fists and stood rigidly in front of the desk.

The minutes and seconds ticked by. Anxiety began to creep up on her and soon spread throughout her body. When she could no longer bear MO Xiuchen’s piercing gaze, he finally spoke, “I never force anyone. You should go back to

Xiao Wenqing. ”

“Young Master MO!”

Upon hearing this, Cheng Jia turned deathly pale. Her voice wavered as she cried out!

Her teary eyes locked onto MO Xiuchen’s as if to protest that after all she had done, it felt unjust that he still didn’t want her.

MO Xiuchen frowned in disgust, got up from behind his desk, and moved to the sofa. Watching as Cheng Jia followed him, he unflinchingly revealed her true intent, “On the surface, it may seem that you sincerely told us that Zhou Mingfu was the killer behind Ranran’s parents and the one who attempted to kidnap and defile her..”
