Chapter 141 - 141: 140 Envy
He dares to say that other than him, MO Jingteng could not find a better successor.
However, what makes him most fulfilled is Wen Ran’s acceptance of him, which fills him with a pride that far exceeds anyone else’s praise and worship.
“So according to you, if I were to accept, I’d be at quite a loss!”
MO Xiuchen’s lips curled up slightly, his brows relaxing.
Wen Ran arched her eyebrows and smiled, saying matter-of-factly: “Although it might seem like a loss, for the sake of so many employees in the group, you should make a slight sacrifice. Plus, if you become the President, wouldn’t I be the President’s wife? Just think, wherever I go in the future, everyone will gaze at me with envy. Wouldn’t that be something to be proud of!”
MO Xiuchen laughs at her teasing manner. He knows that Wen Ran is not a woman who craves vanity.
Despite what his father did to her, she still managed to persuade him to think for the greater good. He can’t help but be touched.
“Alright, in order for Ranran to become the envied President’s wife, I’ll bear the name of the President and make a slight sacrifice.”
Wen Ran chuckled, picked up a small piece of steak, and fed it to him,
“President MO, try this steak. Is it good?”
MO Xiuchen opened his mouth to take the steak she fed him. After chewing slowly, he commented seriously: “It’s pretty good.”
“Then have another piece.”
As Wen Ran spoke, she fed another piece of steak to him, completely unaware of how sweet and romantic their interaction appeared to the onlookers.
MO Xiuchen was enjoying her service and didn’t hesitate to eat all the steak on her plate. After swallowing the last piece, he asked with a smile, “Now that you’ve fed me a whole plate of steak, isn’t it only fair for me to feed you a plate in return?”
Wen Ran blinked, only then realizing that a few pairs of eyes were thrown towards them. When she turned her head, she saw customers from other tables watching them with envious expressions. She belatedly blushed, her face turning red, “No need, I’m not hungry. I’ve had enough for now.”
“If you’re embarrassed, then let’s put it on hold. When we get home tonight, I’ll feed you then!”
MO Xiuchen’s eyes dimmed slightly, a hint of ambiguity slipping into his deep and magnetic voice.
After finishing their meal and leaving, they ran into MO Zixuan and Zhou Lin at the restaurant entrance.
From some unspecified point in time, MO Xiuchen had gotten used to holding
Wen Ran’s hand. Even though the autumn temperature wasn’t low and the weather wasn’t cold, he still liked to envelop her soft and graceful hand in his own. Wen Ran’s hand was somewhat cool and when he held it, feeling the coolness of her palm, his heart softened.
Wen Ran was initially uncomfortable with this, but after going through it over these days and struggling against it every time to no avail, she eventually let him have his way.
Being led by him by the hand, walking with him together, gave Wen Ran a sense of security and reassurance. Although they were walking side by side, MO Xiuchen’s tall figure, broad shoulders, and powerful hand, all gave her a feeling that no matter what troubles lay ahead, he would always be there to shield her.
In sharp contrast to their intimacy, MO Zixuan and Zhou Lin were walking one after another.
Seeing MO Xiuchen coming out of the restaurant, Zixuan paused in his steps and Zhou Lin, not prepared for this, knocked into Zixuan’s back. When she looked ahead, she saw MO Xiuchen and Wen Ran standing there.
Her gaze fixated on their intertwined hands, a flash of envy appearing in Zhou Lin’s eyes. However, it was quickly masked by her feigned smile. She greeted them warmly: “Young Master MO, Ranran, what a coincidence it is to meet you here, were you dining?”
She actually likes these random encounters with MO Xiuchen and Wen Ran, seeing them in love will force MO Zixuan to give up.
MO Xiuchen’s gaze swept over MO Zixuan’s face but he did not look at Zhou Lin. As for what she had said, he seemed to have not heard it. Wen Ran replied calmly: “Yes.”
MO Xiuchen held Wen Ran’s hand as they walked past MO Zixuan, their hands still locked together.
A sharp pain stabbed into MO Zixuan’s heart. His face turned a few colors before ultimately not being able to endure it. After Wen Ran and MO Xiuchen had walked a few steps away, he turned and called out to her, “Ranran!” MO Xiuchen and Wen Ran stopped in their tracks.
Wen Ran turned around with an indifferent look, her clear cold gaze landing on him.
“Sorry about that matter!”
MO Zixuan’s eyes were filled with pain and regret. Because of that incident, his father was hospitalized. After he woke up, his mother didn’t dare to see MO Jingteng, God knows what he had said to her.
Zhou Lin watched MO Zixuan in surprise, not understanding why he was apologizing to Wen Ran.
A flash of coldness flickered in Wen Ran’s eyes. Without saying a word, she turned around and left with MO Xiuchen.
Zhou Lin was displeased with Wen Ran’s attitude but also secretly pleased with her indifference towards MO Zixuan. This conflicting emotion made her feel complicated. She waited quietly for MO Zixuan for a whole minute before softly saying, “Zixuan, let’s go!”
“I suddenly remembered that there’s still something unfinished at the office. You can catch a cab back later.”
MO Zixuan squeezed his lips tightly, restraining his emotions. He said this to Zhou Lin and turned to leave.
“Zixuan!”
Watching MO Zixuan’s departing figure, Zhou Lin’s face turned from white to green. His cool and decisive departure didn’t linger for even a second. Her clenched fist by her side betrayed the waves of hatred crashing through every nerve in her heart.
It was all Wen Ran’s fault!
If she hadn’t run into her, Zixuan wouldn’t have left her alone.
She swore bitterly, vowing never to let Wen Ran off.
That afternoon, MO Xiuchen called Luo Haofeng in H City, asking him to send someone with the medicinal herbs that the Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory was in dire need of.
The next day at noon the herbs were delivered to the factory.
Wen Ran treated Luo Haofeng and two delivery workers to lunch. On her way back to the office, she received a call from MO Jingteng.
Wen Ran hesitated before answering, “Alright, I’ll be there in a bit.”
After hanging up, she turned the steering wheel and headed towards Kangning Hospital.
All the way there, Wen Ran drove slowly, wondering what MO Jingteng wanted to talk about.
In the hospital room, only MO Jingteng was there. Ignoring her inner emotions, Wen Ran politely greeted “Chairman MO”, and stepped into the hospital room.
“Wen Ran, sit down. I have something to talk to you about.”
MO Jingteng was reclining on the bed, a pillow propped behind him. His tone while speaking with Wen Ran was devoid of the superiority and contempt that were present the first time they met at MO Xiuchen’s house. There was a trace of gentleness in his facial expression, perhaps due to his illness.
Wen Ran quietly pulled out a chair and sat down, her calm gaze meeting his own deep one.. She asked simply, “What would you like to discuss Chairman
