Chapter 132 - 132: Pity
Chapter 132 - 132: Pity
Wen Ran gave a faint smile and signed her name on the document, “That’s not necessarily the case, MO Zixuan even went to F City to bring her back in person. Just because he doesn’t like her doesn’t mean his mother doesn’t. After all, the child that Zhou Lin is carrying is a blood member of the MO family.”
Li Qian’s eyes widened in surprise, asking incredulously: “MO Zixuan really went to F City to pick up Zhou Lin? She didn’t make that up?”
Wen Ran shrugged her shoulders, answered casually, “I don’t know. She said so herself, and she seemed to be in a good mood today, so it’s probably true.”
Li Qian dismissed her comment with a swish of her mouth, after a moment of silence, a smile crept across her face, “Ranran, have you ever thought of having a child with MO Xiuchen?”
At these words, her signing movement paused slightly. She went on to sign the remaining documents and calmly said, “Let’s just let nature take its course!”
After the kidnapping and the shark fin soup incident in F City, Wen Ran did indeed wish to have a child with MO Xiuchen, but not now.
Just like what Gu Kai said, she didn’t know what dangers might lie in the future. She couldn’t even protect herself yet, let alone a child.
After the Pharmaceutical Conference, Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory entered a busy phase. Although the majority of the workload was taken up by Wen Jin, Wen Ran was still very busy.
At noon, she had planned to eat in the cafeteria and used the lunch break as well. However, just before she was about to leave, MO Xiuchen called her.
Seeing the caller ID, a trace of confusion flickered in her eyes. She pressed the answer button, “Hello.”
His deep magnetic voice came over the phone, warm and pleasing to the ears,
“Ranran, get ready to come out, I will be at the factory shortly.”
Wen Ran was startled, “Ah, what are you coming for?”
A chuckle from MO Xiuchen came on the other end, “It’s lunchtime, of course, I’m coming to pick you up for lunch.”
Wen Ran smiled knowingly. But thinking about her plans and the thick pile of documents on her office desk, she reluctantly said, “I’m a bit busy at noon, and I don’t feel like going out.”
At the end of her sentence, the sounds of car horns came from the phone, followed by MO Xiuchen’s voice, ‘You have ten minutes. If you don’t come down, I will go up to your office.”
Wen Ran puckered her lips but finally agreed helplessly, “Alright, I’ll be down in a moment.”
After hanging up the call, she tidied up the documents, shut down her
computer, and left the office.
As she stepped out of the factory gate, MO Xiuchen’s Aston was driving in from a distance. It slowly decelerated before her and came to a steady stop. The car door swung open from the inside and she bent down to get in.
As Wen Ran was fastening the seatbelt, she asked, “Didn’t you say this morning that you’d be busy today? How do you have time to take me out for lunch?”
MO Xiuchen was leaning slightly towards her, his eyes landed warmly on her fair and delicate face. The scar on her left cheek had completely healed and there was no trace of it.
As she raised her eyes to meet his gaze, a hint of a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. He said, “It’s not just the two of us today, my father will also be joining us.”
Wen Ran was taken aback, she asked incredulously “Your father is hosting a lunch?”
The curve at the corner of MO Xiuchen’s mouth vanished, a hint of emotion flickered in his eyes, his voice lowered slightly, “I spoke to him this morning and told him everything about Xiao Wenqing’s deeds, he said he wanted to see you.”
“Oh!”
Wen Ran’s eyes flickered and her lips pursed, she asked softly, “Does he believe you? Will he suspect that I’m lying and trying to frame Wenqing?”
A smirk escaped MO Xiuchen, his voice dripped with a bit of sarcasm, “I’ve shown him all the evidence that we have so far. Even if he doesn’t believe that Wenqing masterminded all this, at the very least, he should believe that she is the prime suspect.”
Once they were on the road, Wen Ran looked at MO Xiuchen’s cold side profile and hesitated before asking the question that perplexed her,” Did they ever find out who was behind your kidnapping back then?”
At her words, MO Xiuchen shifted his gaze to face her. He met her concerned and confused eyes. His eyes softened a bit and he replied in a calm manner, “I was too young at that time, and my father’s company encountered some issues. Preoccupied with the company and his new family, my father had no time for me. The kidnapping case remained unresolved.”
Wen Ran’s eyes darkened slightly as her heart inexplicably tightened. Though MO Xiuchen’s tone was calm, she could feel his helplessness during that time.
A vague image of a little boy surfaced in front of her. A boy whose mother was taken, who was robbed of his father’s attention, experienced a kidnapping, and narrowly escaped death.
Her brows knitted slightly as the image of the little boy morphed into the one that frequently appeared in her dreams.
“Those things happened over a decade ago, I got over them long ago.”
Seeing furrow in her brows, MO Xiuchen thought she was distressed about his childhood. His heart softened, and his tone was more tender than before.
Wen Ran gave a small smile and brought up a livelier topic, “Xiaoxiao called me this morning, she is going on an overseas trip. After you finish with work, let’s go on a vacation together, to unwind a bit!”
MO Xiuchen’s lip curved in a smile and readily agreed, “Sounds good. You choose the place first once we get through this period, probably in early December, we can take a break. We’ll treat it as our late honeymoon.”
As he mentioned the word ‘honeymoon’, his voice took on a suggestive undertone, causing Wen Ran to blush slightly. Choosing to ignore the teasing hidden in his eyes, she blinked and cheerfully said, “By that time, my brother should have fully recovered. With him at the company, I can take a breather.”
If it was too early and her brother had not fully recovered, she wouldn’t feel at ease leaving to have fun.
“Alright, let’s do that. I will arrange my schedule in advance to make time.”
In just a few exchanges, they managed to agree on the time for their holiday. MO Xiuchen was truly delighted. He knew that Wen Ran didn’t suggest a holiday because she wanted to have fun. But rather, it was because she felt sorry for him after hearing of his childhood.
He was well aware of that fact.
Wen Ran smiled and nodded, “Great!”
The venue for lunch was an ostentatious seaside club. MO Xiuchen said this was the place where his father often brought his clients.
Wen Ran was familiar with this place. The club was not open to everyone, and you couldn’t enter with just money. The guests that could enter were all people of status and importance.
Clearly, MO Xiuchen was also a regular here. As the car drove into the VIP parking spot of the club, a valet promptly came up, respectfully opened the car door for him, and greeted him with a respectful, “Young Master MO!”
MO Xiuchen alighted from the car, and walked around the front of the car and held the door open for Wen Ran. He extended his hand out to her with a smile.
As Wen Ran got out of the car, she naturally linked her arm with his. Under the admiring gazes of many, the couple entered the club, took the elevator to the upper floor, and arrived at the room reserved by MO Jingteng.
In a tastefully decorated private room sat two people at a large round table: MO
Jingteng and Xiao Wenqing..
