Chapter 124 - 124: Try to satisfy as much as possible
MO Xiuchen’s voice was deep and calm, as tranquil as water. Neither did he seem overly grateful towards his saviour, nor was he cold and indifferent. To outsiders, the unapproachable Young Master MO, speaking so gently with a woman, was a rare sight.
Yet, Cheng Jia deciphered the subtle distinction in his words. He addressed her formally by her full name, but when he referred to Wen Ran, it was always done affectionately.
His gentle demeanor was not ignited by her presence but by the woman standing by his side. It was her who unknowingly evoked the warmth in his eyes.
Wen Ran had been quietly watching Cheng Jia’s changing expressions. Wearing a amused smile, she withdrew her hand from MO Xiuchen’s warm palm and walked towards the bed, expressing her gratitude, “Miss Cheng, I can’t thank you enough for pushing MO Xiuchen out of harm’s way during that emergency yesterday. He told me that your injuries are quite severe and will take more than a few days to heal. Plus, with your parents abroad and unable to return immediately, you should focus on resting for the next few days. I’ll have Nanny Zhang bring you meals every day. Just tell her if there’s anything specific you would like to eat.”
Cheng Jia’s heart was filled with a mixture of sorrow, irritation, jealousy, and frustration.
She was aware that while MO Xiuchen acknowledged her as the one who had saved his life, he didn’t treat her any differently even after she had done so again yesterday.
Unexpectedly, upon their arrival today, he was openly expressing affection towards Wen Ran.
Disheartened, she gazed at MO Xiuchen. Wen Ran had moved to the bedside while the tall and handsome MO Xiuchen was still standing by the door, gently looking at Wen Ran.
The sadder Cheng Jia felt, the deeper her resentment.
Recognizing her gaze, MO Xiuchen shifted his attention from Wen Ran to Cheng Jia. Meeting her disconsolate gaze, he walked forward and added fuel to the fire, “Ran Ran is right, you should focus on getting better these few days. Don’t worry about anything else,”
Cheng Jia’s hand, hidden underneath the quilt, clenched tightly. As MO Xiuchen approached, the burgeon of hope overpowered her bitterness. She reminded herself not to rush things.
As long as MO Xiuchen cared for her and looked after her, she believed that someday, he would acknowledge her feelings, discarding Wen Ran to accept her.
However, her hopes were swiftly dashed.
After he walked a few steps closer to the bed, she realized he hadn’t come to check up on her. He pulled out a chair and said to Wen Ran who was standing by the bed, “Ran Ran, don’t stand. Sit down if you want to talk.”
Wen Ran was taken aback, she glanced at MO Xiuchen, exchanged smiles, and then elegantly took a seat.
“Young Master MO, you shouldn’t stand either. Please make yourself comfortable on the bed.”
Cheng Jia’s voice fluttered as she spoke. She ignored Wen Ran, who was sitting by the bed. She continued to look up at MO Xiuchen; she moved a bit further within the bed, creating enough room for him to sit on the edge of the bed.
There was only one chair in the room. She had deliberately removed the sofa in order to ensure that MO Xiuchen would have to sit close to her when he visited.
Ignoring her expectant gaze, MO Xiuchen said to Wen Ran with a smile, “I need to go and see Ah Kai for something. Ran Ran, once you’ve finished talking to
Cheng Jia, you can come and find me in Ah Kai’s office.”
Cheng Jia’s face fell and she blurted out, “Young Master MO, you just got here.
Are you leaving so soon?”
She had been waiting all day for his visit.
Before they could even have a proper conversation, he was already leaving. She was both anxious and sad.
MO Xiuchen nodded, his voice was constantly calm and indifferent, “Ran Ran will take care of it for me. It would be more convenient for you to communicate your needs with her.”
“Ran Ran, call me if you need anything!”
After he finished speaking, MO Xiuchen strode out of the room.
Cheng Jia bit her lip and watched as he disappeared from her sight. She wished her gaze could penetrate the walls so that she could continue to keep him in her sight a little while longer.
Wen Ran gracefully sat in the chair, her gaze fell on Cheng Jia with a calm demeanor. She thought to herself that Cheng Jia no longer bothered to hide her feelings, even in front of MO Xiuchen!
She wasn’t sure whether to say that Cheng Jia was pitifully infatuated or shameless.
There was no fault in loving someone. However, obsessively trying to seduce someone who was already in a committed relationship was indeed despicable.
Even if she ended up getting hurt, it wouldn’t be worth pitying.
“Miss Cheng, if you need anything, feel free to tell me. MO Xiuchen and I will do our best to fulfill your request.”
Wen Ranqing spoke gently, disrupting Cheng Jia’s silent fantasies about MO Xiuchen.
Now that MO Xiuchen had left, Cheng Jia felt no need to be polite with Wen Ran. She looked at Wen Ran’s delicate and beautiful face, specifically at her left cheek where a new scar marred her usually flawless complexion. The recently healed skin was slightly pink against the usual paleness of her complexion.
She hadn’t seen Wen Ran with this facial scar before but equally, she could imagine how unattractive it would have made her look. In fact, an evil thought even crossed her mind, she wished that Wen Ran’s face was disfigured.
“Miss Cheng?”
When she noticed Cheng Jia staring at her face without uttering a word, Wen Ran furrowed her brows and called her again.
Cheng Jia returned to her senses, a flicker in her eyes indicated the subsiding of her evil thoughts. With an indifferent tone, she said, “I don’t need anything. Miss Wen, if you have no more business here, then please leave. I wish to rest now. ”
Wen Ran smiled slightly without getting angry by her attitude. Her gaze fell onto the bandaged wound on Cheng Jia’s forehead, “Miss Cheng, it’s important to stay upbeat while recovering from your injuries. If you don’t want to tell me, you can always tell MO Xiuchen later.”
“Is there anything that I may require, which you will be able to provide?”
Cheng Jia disliked how Wen Ran casually referred to MO Xiuchen. The way she addressed him irritated Cheng Jia as much as MO Xiuchen calling Wen Ran ‘Ran Ran’. These pet names were like thorns in her heart.
She looked at Wen Ran with a challenging, taunting gaze, suggesting that even if she told her what she wanted, Wen Ran wouldn’t be able to fulfill any of them.
Wen Ran squinted her eyes to meet Cheng Jia’s defiant gaze. Her expression quickly returned to its calm state, as peaceful as water, and without a hint of emotional fluctuations. “Whether I can meet your requirements or not depends on whether they are reasonable. You can just tell me what you need, and even if I can’t fulfill your request, MO Xiuchen can. You are his savior, and he’ll definitely do his best to meet your demands..”
