Chapter 107 - 107: Nothing is more important than her.
Chapter 107 - 107: Nothing is more important than her.
“She is too tired, still asleep!”
MO Xiuchen stated so plainly, his refusal made so explicit. If Bai Xiaoxiao insisted, then he wouldn’t be so ‘polite’ anymore.
“Oh, then I’ll call her when she wakes up.”
With a response from the other end of the line, the call was ended.
Bai Xiaoxiao held her phone and considered for a while, then decided, that as Wen Ran’s best friend, if Wen Ran couldn’t make it to the exhibition, she shouldn’t stay away either.
With this thought, she quickly put on some make-up, picked up her bag and left the room.
Upon opening the door, Bai Xiaoxiao saw MO Xiuchen in the corridor. Even though she could only see his back, she recognized him and blurted out in surprise, “MO Xiuchen!”
MO Xiuchen turned around at the sound of his name, his handsome face showing no surprising reaction to seeing her, “Miss Bail”
“MO Xiuchen, what are you doing here? Did you and Ranran stay at this hotel last night? Which room is she in?”
Bai Xiaoxiao was not foolish, even though she hadn’t seen which room he’d come out of, his presence here at this time could only mean that he and Ranran had spent the night at this hotel.
MO Xiuchen didn’t deny or answer her question, but responded in a nonchalant tone, “She’s very tired. If Miss Bai isn’t busy, you could go to the exhibition to lend a hand.”
Bai Xiaoxiao’s face changed slightly, a glint of displeasure flickering in her eyes as she looked at MO Xiuchen, “I’m Ranran’s best friend. I won’t be at ease until I see her.”
With her chin raised defiantly, she insisted on seeing Ranran even though he was against it!
A sharp gaze passed through MO Xiuchen’s eyes, his lips pressed together in silence.
“MO Xiuchen, if you’re worried I’ll disturb Ranran, I promise I won’t wake her up. I just want to see if she really is okay.”
The atmosphere grew tense.
After a while, Bai Xiaoxiao mentally cursed to herself and conceded.
“Follow me! ”
MO Xiuchen uttered these three words and started walking.
“Thank you!”
Bai Xiaoxiao quickly followed, visibly relieved. MO Xiuchen stopped in front of a hotel room, took out his key card and opened the door. Before letting her in, he glanced at the bed where Wen Ran lay sleeping. A soft warmth sparkled in his deep eyes.
“Go in, but dont wake her up”
MO Xiuchen took back his gaze, gave Bai Xiaoxiao this instruction and then walked away with long strides.
Bai Xiaoxiao closed the door behind her, and tiptoed over to the bed. She looked at Wen Ran, who was fast asleep, and chose not to wake her.
Her gaze lingered on the scabbed wound on Wen Ran’s left cheek; a stark contrast to her smooth skin. Her exposed arm was wrapped in gauze.
Bai Xiaoxiao felt a strange sense of unease. Last night, Luo Haofeng had casually mentioned that Wen Ran was fine, only that she had been drugged. He hadn’t told her Wen Ran was injured.
And just now, MO Xiuchen had also said Wen Ran was too tired and not to wake her.
So, she was injured.
What had she gone through last night( As Bai Xiaoxiao was deep in thought, her phone suddenly rang with urgency.
Her eyes flickered, afraid of disturbing Wen Ran. She quickly took out her phone, and seeing the caller ID, her surprise was evident, she answered the phone, “Hello, Brother Jin!”
“Xiaoxiao, where’s Ranran?”
There was a sense of worry and urgency in Wen Jin’s voice. Bai Xiaoxiao was momentarily stunned, then she replied softly, “Brother Jin, Ranran is still asleep.”
“Wake her up.”
“Okay, wait a moment, I’ll get her.”
Bai Xiaoxiao did not dare to refuse. Wen Jin’s tone was not as gentle as usual, but rather hurried and intense.
Bai Xiaoxiao had the feeling that he already knew about last night’s events, hence the urgency. Moreover, he might have spoken to MO Xiuchen and knew that she was with Wen Ran now.
“Ranran, wake up, Brother Jin is on the phone.”
Wen Ran was weary and tired, and reluctantly opened her eyes. On seeing Bai Xiaoxiao, she frowned with discomfort, and rubbed her sleepy eyes, then looked at the phone in Bai Xiaoxiao’s hand.
“Brother Jin called, it seems urgent.”
Bai Xiaoxiao whispered to Wen Ran, with a hand covering the phone.
Upon hearing that, Wen Ran’s expression changed slightly. Propping herself up with one hand, she took the phone from Bai Xiaoxiao, moistened her lips, and called out softly, “Brother!”
“Ranran, I just found out about last night. How could you be so foolish? Nothing is more important than your life. Tell me, are your injuries severe?”
Wen Jin’s voice was full of urgency and worry. Wen Ran felt a lump in her throat. Last night, MO Xiuchen had also asked her to promise not to do anything stupid ever again. Now her brother was saying that nothing was more important than her life, even if she had been humiliated, his affection for her wouldn’t lessen a bit.
“Brother, I was desperate at the time. Don’t worry, I’m not seriously injured. It’s just a minor scrape and will be fine in a few days.”
Wen Ran tried to sound lighthearted. Although she didn’t want to worry her brother, she also knew that he would inevitably find out about the incident since the police had been involved.
“Where were you injured? You should come home today, let Sister Li handle things at F City. I’ll send someone to pick you up.”
Without seeing her injuries, Wen Jin was far from reassured.
“Brother, I only received a small scrape on my arm. I’m truly all right. Once the exhibition ends in a couple of days, I’ll return home. If you don’t believe me, I can send you a picture later.”
Wen Ran felt a warm sensation in her heart as she spoke to her brother. Her voice became unconsciously soft and whiny. Even now, in front of her brother, she was still the same little girl he loved and cherished.
However, Wen Jin had no intention of backing down. After finding out what Wen Ran had experienced last night, he wished he could end his own life instead.
In Wen Jin’s eyes, all of this was his fault. He hadn’t been able to protect his sister. If anything serious had happened to Wen Ran, he would live in guilt and agony for the rest of his life.
“No, even if your injuries are not severe, you need to come back. I just spoke to
MO Xiuchen on the phone and he agreed to bring you back today.”
“But Brother, what about things here in F City?”
Wen Ran knew that her brother was worried about her, but she couldn’t leave her work unfinished.
“Ranran, if I’d known you would have to endure so much by going to F City, I would rather have let the company go bankrupt.”
There was silence on the line for a moment, then Wen Jin’S voice returned, filled with remorse, pain, and firm resolve. In his heart and eyes, Ranran was more important than his own life, let alone his company.
A wave of emotions swept over Wen Ran as she struggled to find the words to refuse her brother again, her lips slightly parted, she spoke softly, “Brother, neither of us can predict the future, what happened last night was an accident.. I’m heading back home, so please stop blaming yourself, okay?”
