Chapter 17: Just a mess (1)
===================
□ Adelia Bayern [female, 17 years old], [maiden]
□ Aptitude. [Swordsmanship-S], [Mana Response-A]
□ Characteristics. [Slaughterer], [War Mania], [Tender], [Caring], [Servility]
===================
Class A is a genius that encompasses the kingdom; Class S is a genius that encompasses the entire continent.
Adelia Bavaria had an S-class skill.
But there was a problem.
Her personality status.
It was the weirdest I have seen.
She had the potential to be a great warrior with her skills.
But…
Her heart is soft [Tender].
She was exceptionally caring for others [Caring].
And she is dependent and passive [Servility].
“Your Highness?”
As I saw her looking at me with a deer-like expression, my confusion grew even worse.
Chaos. That’s what I feel right now.
What is this terrible hybrid?
I had a conflict.
Obviously, her potential was enormous.
But it was also an evil that must not be released.
Her [Slaughterer] and [War Mania] traits were the problem.
Obviously, Adelia Bayern’s potential was enormous. But it was also a taboo that should not be opened at the same time.
[Slaughterer] and [War mania] were the problem.
A woman with an unmatched potential could become a fanatic of blood and battle.
It could create a terrible disaster.
The descendant of the Bavarian family inherited the skills and the urge of her ancestors, but not the means to control them.
She did not have the [Cold Commander] and [Cold Reason] that her ancestor had.
That means she doesn’t have any means to control her own madness.
“Your Highness?”
Adelia Bavaria was deer-like in her expressions and movements.
Underneath it, a terrifying madness is sleeping.
Should I release that madness into the world?
I was worried.
But I was decided from the moment I saw her personality window.
“Adelia Bayern. Swear allegiance to me.”
Her S-class talent was a temptation that could never be denied.
“Me, Your Highness?”
“Be my knight!”
I commanded in a fierce voice.
At this moment, all I have to believe in was her characteristic of [Tender] and [Servility].
If she couldn’t control her own madness, I will forcefully grab her reins.
“But, why, Your Highness? I am just a trivial maid employed by the palace…”
She fell on the ground, near tears.
“Swear to me, now!”
“Your Highness, I can’t do it.”
“Why? Are you worried about your family? You must have entered the royal palace to earn for them. I will be responsible for your family.”
She shook. Her face was down so I couldn’t see her expression, but I could feel it.
She is in conflict.
“Your Highness, what do you want me to do?”
“Swear allegiance to me and serve me as your master. That is what I want from you.”
After a few more moments of prodding, she opened her mouth.
“Your Highness…” she smiled shyly, “are you really going to take care of my family?”
“Yes. I’ll take care of everything. If you want, you can have them move closer to the palace so you can arrange to see them anytime.”
In my answer, she brought her face down to the ground again.
“Adelia, the eldest daughter of the Bavarian family, swears allegiance to Prince Adrian Leonberger. I will devote my life to serving him as my master.”
Her oath was as crude as the pledge made by Arwen Kirgayenne, but she was sincere in her willingness to obey.
I was glad.
The potential of the S-grade skill is like a bud that blooms immediately once awakened.
If I don’t do this, she would always have that talent like a sharp needle within her, and one day, it could poke me instead.
It’s because of that fucking pig; I trembled as I saw the scars carved into her fine skin.
“Obey my orders in the future.”
I emphasized again and again. I had to imprint myself on her [Servility] trait.
“I will, Your Highness.”
Adelia Bavaria bowed and looked at me. It was a look that had something to say.
“Call your whole family. I will set aside a place for them to stay.”
“Thank you, Majesty. Thank you very much.”
She expressed her gratitude over and over again with a face that seemed to shed tears.
“Will there be a lot of them?”
“My parents died five years ago. I only have a younger brother, and an Aunt taking care of him along with my cousin.”
As she mentioned the words’ younger brother’, my eyes widened uncontrollably.
Her younger brother would also have inherited swordsmanship skills.
Maybe he had special talents, too.
When I asked about her younger brother, she looked proud.
“Unlike me, he is a very intelligent child,” she remarked.
I ordered her to call them as soon as she can.
* * *
I explained the situation to the court recorder whom I called.
“Your Highness, I have dumb ears and must have misheard, could you repeat it again, please?”
“Adelia Bavaria is now a member of the royal palace, under my name.”
“She is a maid under your name from the beginning…”
I shook my finger from side to side.
“No, I’m not talking about her employment. She is now a member of the royal palace.”
The old court recorder’s wrinkles deepened on his forehead.
It was a face that says he couldn’t understand what the hell I was saying.
“Do you like her? Your Highness?”
“No.” It would be crazy to be in a relationship with someone who had the characteristics of [Slaughterer] and [War Mania].
“Hmm…” the royal court recorder stared at me again.
It was obvious he didn’t believe my words. He stared at me as if I looked like a horny pig.
Oh, really. I frowned and started to say something, but the court recorder spoke faster.
“Then, I will fill her empty place with another maid. Your Highness, may I ask you what she will do in the future?”
His job was to record even the smallest thing in the royal palace. I bluntly responded.
“I will make her my personal knight.”
The royal court recorded looked as if he had just heard the strangest sound.”
“And her family is going to live near the royal road. Find a suitable home.”
The court recorder’s face screamed his thoughts.
She’s a concubine!
I can almost hear it.
“That’s it, get out!” I shouted at the annoying old man.
Soon after dismissing the court recorder, the King’s messenger came to me.
The king called me.
“Here I have a headache trying to rectify what you have done to the noblemen, and what are you doing? Bitching?”
As soon as he saw my face, he started to pour out swear words.
“You made the Kirgayenne’s daughter to your personal knight, and this time, you want a made to be another knight? Is this your new hobby?”
The king asked if I desired women with armor and swords.
Shit, this old man with a dirty mouth.
I made a lot of trouble and talked back to him as his words of rebuke continued.
“You should be ashamed!” Instead of explaining my side, I closed my mouth.
No one would believe it anyway.
After a long time, the king’s nagging ended.
“I have to make sure that the palace won’t get any more problems from you again.”
“I’ll have to make sure that the palace doesn’t get complicated by you again.”
With that warning, the king kicked me out.
“Oh, that sucks.”
As if the nagging I received from the king wasn’t enough, I found Uncle in my room when I went back.
Uncle clicked his tongue at me and turned around, annoying me further.
“Why are you here again?” I asked him, but he didn’t answer and left.
After Uncle, the Third Prince also came.
“Making a maid a knight? Truly, my brother?”
“Please just go away.”
Fortunately, he didn’t stay long.
I was looking forward to seeing them watch a great knight to be born under my hands.
As I prepared to rest, I heard the announcement outside my room.
“The Queen…”
Oh, shit!
Why did the Queen have to come when I was already lying down to rest?
“Now, you seemed to be back to your old ways… what did you do those noblemen… do you know how great Your Majesty’s troubles are…”
The nagging continued.
“As a prince, you must have an awareness of your position. Indeed, being the eldest…”
In a way, it was good that the Queen spoke gently. She rarely spoke harshly.
“Trust your mother. This time, the same thing that happened last time will not happen.”
I was curious at her words, but I didn’t want to ask because the conversation would be longer.
Eventually, she left.
Then, I called Adelia.
“Why hasn’t Eli come yet?” I complained to her.
It was insensitive of him to keep me waiting.
“Should we send a message?” she asked.
“Uh, no. It’s too late for that.”
However, Adelia took a piece of paper and started writing. I went and took it out of her hands.
“You are not a maid anymore.”
I forced her to sit down.
“Your Highness?”
“Tomorrow, we will learn to fence. We will study it and eventually learn other skills.”
She looked a little bit excited. “Perhaps… will I learn mana, too?”
It seemed that she had picked something up from the knights.
She was thinking about mana chains, but I have another idea.
“Uh, someday.”
She will learn mana, but not the way she was expecting.
Only
“So, we will get started soon,” I declared.
The world has completely forgotten the way of the sword.
But I didn’t.
And I would make her remember, too.
The footsteps she has to take.
The sword dancing at her fingertips.
The sound of her heart that thumped violently.
I remember everything.
