Chapter 772 It Has Been A While (7)
However, Kyran ignored him, and even Oded paid him no heed. The latter simply followed the former\'s instruction without any questions.
Gidan would lie if he said he was not surprised at Oded\'s attitude. But then he recalled the latter was also a new recruit and had arrived at the borders with Kyran.
Could Oded\'s attitude toward Kyran result from something that happened during their journey?
This question made Gidan make a mental note to review Hilam and Soria\'s full report.
Before Gidan could usher Kyran to leave, he was shocked to see one of the fighters who had taken the latter\'s pill to recover so soon.
Dumbfounded, Gidan failed to digest what had happened properly. Moreover, he had yet to recover from his initial shock when another fighter recovered.
Most of the healers in the infirmary were as shocked as Gidan. Only a few that did not fully understand what was happening, and Oded, remained calm.
Rather than appearing calm, Oded wore a knowing smile while looking at Gidan as if to say: "Surprised? That\'s brother Nar\'s pills for you! Its efficacy cannot be compared to those so-called high-quality pills from big cities!"
Kyran left without confirming the status of the 70 fighters that took his pill because he already knew the result. Besides, he picked them because he could already sense their natural healing ability was at an acceptable rate, which would allow them to digest the pill he had in a few minutes.
In any case, Kyran had no issue showing them his \'apothecary\' skills since Hilam and his group already knew it. Hilam would have also said something about it when he submitted his report, which meant they would know he was good with potions and pills sooner than later.
The reason Kyran went through the trouble of healing these fighters was so they could add to the current abled fighters. Though he was confident of returning before the enemies launched a follow-up attack, he had to ensure the fort had enough abled fighters to maintain the steel wall\'s barrier. At the same time, if on the off chance that the enemies attacked before he returned, at least their side had a hundred abled fighters to keep them at bay.
Seeing that Gidan was still dumbfounded and would not recover soon, Kyran left the infirmary and met Soria and Yalen.
The two were already aware of their assignment and immediately made preparations.
"Let\'s go," Kyran said and teleported them outside.
Soria and Yalen were surprised that Kyran possessed a disc with a level-one clearance. Then again, recalling what he did a few hours ago and that he was actually an acquaintance of the Saint, it was only right he had one.
They did not notice Kyran had not activated a disc but his magic to transport them outside.
Once outside, Kyran looked at them and said, "I have a technique that allows me to move fast. If we want to return before nightfall, I have to carry you two. Will that be okay?"
"That\'s fine with me."
"C-Carry us?"
Soria and Yalen replied at the same time. Judging by the difference in their tone, however, they both had a different take on being \'carried.\'
Soria did not seem to have any problem with Kyran\'s suggestion, but Yalen\'s voice quivered slightly, and her face turned bright red, suggesting she felt uneasy about the idea.
"I said carry, but I\'ll have you enter here," Kyran said, showing them a small dark purple orb. He explained, "This orb can hold two people without any problem with air."
Actually, the orb was only a prop. He intended to warp them in his Void world and let them stay in one of the smaller rooms in the tower.
Yalen\'s face turned even redder as she poutingly said, "You should have said that from the start!"
Kyran gave her a weird look and said, "Why are you getting worked up?"
"That\'s right, Lady Yalen," Soria also quipped. "There is no way for him to carry us simultaneously. Did you think he would carry one princess-style and the other on his back? Even if his technique allowed him to move in such a position, our combined weight would logically make it impossible."
Yalen glared at her, "H-Hush…! I get it, alright. Let\'s go!"
Kyran chuckled at Yalen\'s foolishness, even finding it cute. Although he could carry them the way Soria had described, he did not because their body could not handle the strain from being exposed to the speed of the Dragon Steps. Besides, they did not seem to weigh more than 110 kg. thus, their combined weight was nothing to him.
It would be a different story if he warped. However, he wanted to avoid using his Void magic in the open and in front of others. He wanted to keep his innate magic a secret as much as possible.
Draconic magic was fine because he mainly used it to enhance his physical capabilities.
"But if we enter that orb, how can I lead you to the forest?" Soria suddenly asked.
"Don\'t worry," Kyran assured her. "You can still talk to me inside the orb."
"You carry such interesting items, Nar," Soria remarked, looking at the orb with sparkles in her eyes.
In Somuli, there were different ways to transport live beings. One was to place them in huge containers and have someone with minification abilities turn the containers into portable sizes that could be hand carried. Another way was to ask a mage with Space magic to create space storages that living organisms could stay in for a few days. But even then, those storages could only carry one organism at a time due to their limited oxygen capacity. Then there were storages created with lost technology. Those items were rare. In the history of Somuli, only two known storages were created with lost technology, and they were in the Nobles\' possession.
But what interested Soria the most was how Kyran\'s orb could not only store two people simultaneously but also allow communication from the outside.
\'That orb is definitely created with lost technology!\' Soria thought excitedly. It was not only the orb. She believed the storage ring Kyran used to keep their supplies also had lost technology.
Seeing the curious look on Soria\'s face, Kyran only smiled. Honestly, he did not intend to hide his knowledge in Array. But he did not want to show all his trump cards from the get-go. He planned to slowly reveal what he could do and improve the border\'s defenses.
When Kyran smiled, Soria was elated. She found his smile to be a silent admission that her guess was on point. For someone to have not one but two items created using lost technology and refer to lost technology as Array meant a lot to Soria.
She was beginning to view Kyran as a treasure trove of magic knowledge. He was not only knowledgeable in apothecary but also the lost technology. His combat sense and strength were also formidable.
Soria was suddenly overcome with the idea of wanting Kyran to be her master!
Before she could voice her thoughts, Kyran waved his hand and transported her and Yalen to his Void World. He wanted to return as soon as possible. Thus, he did not want to dally any longer.
After transporting the two, he reconnected with the projector in the old man\'s room.
\'Old man,\' he called.
\'Did you finally remember me?\' The old man complained. He had been on edge all this time because Kyran had removed the projector\'s connection without prior notice. He was worried that something bad happened, and the young man stopped the feed to spare him the heartache.
\'Sorry, an emergency needed to be dealt with as soon as possible, and I could not connect until now.\'
\'Emergency?\' The old man asked in concern.
\'It has been dealt with. I\'ll explain on the way. More importantly, can you tell me more about why you are at odds with those inhabitants on the other side of the chasm? I get that they believed this land was theirs but is that all? I am also curious how they can amass a beast horde like it was nothing, not to mention send out a magical beast.\'
\'A magical beast? W-What do you mean by that? Did they send out a magical beast to attack? How is everyone? Sisi… How is Sisi? Is she alright?\'
\'I\'m the one asking questions right now, old man,\' Kyran complained, his brow twitching. \'And what? You\'re using her name now that the cat is out of the bag?\'
\'Young man, answer my question first, I beg of you.\'
\'She\'s fine, as well as your people. You knew I was looking for her. Would I let anything happen to her on my watch?\'
The old man sighed, \'I see… That\'s good, then.\'
\'Now answer my question.\'
\'I already told you, I do not want to defy the Fates. I can only lead you to where you will find what you are searching for,\' the old man replied apologetically.
\'What is the difference between telling me the truth to telling me the direction where I could find her?\' Kyran asked in confusion.
\'You already said it. Telling the truth. Feeding the information, rather than letting you acquire it naturally. That is the difference,\' the old man explained patiently. \'It seems you are unaware of how the Fates work even though you have traveled to other planes before.\'
\'It\'s because I never bothered understanding their role before.\'
\'And now you are?\'
\'Since they kept popping at every turn I made,\' Kyran said with a shrug. \'They\'re annoying.\'
\'Be careful what you say, young man. They might be listening.\'
\'Let them listen,\' Kyran replied. \'I\'d rather they hear my opinion.\'
\'You truly are…\' The old man sighed and decided to change the subject. Unlike Kyran, he did not want to incur the Fates\' wrath. \'And? Tell me what happened after you disconnected.\'
Kyran relayed what transpired to the old man along the way. At the same time, Soria\'s voice would fleet in their conversation, telling him where to go.
After almost two hours, they finally arrived at their destination.
