Chapter 365 What The Montgomeray Patriarch Said
As Kyran recalled this small but probably very important detail, his expression turned grim.
When he guessed that his predecessor might have been married to the Queen of the Faes, he felt reluctant to meet her, even when he initially asked Stella if it was possible.
He was not ready to meet his predecessor\'s possible old flame, especially when those people who knew his predecessor seemed to see them as one person— so far, that had been the case with the other Sovereigns and not a Stella-only case.
However, even if Kyran felt this way, he knew he would have to meet her. That had been Silas\'s task: make contact with the leaders of the Spirits. Eventually, Kyran would have to meet their Queen.
With an inward sigh, he decided to deal with it when the time comes and not dwell on it now. Because after the Montgomeray\'s connection with the Spirits was added to the equation, Kyran now had a rough idea why the Crown Princess was with them during the Solo Competition.
Being a Royal Family, meant the Crown Princess knew the real story behind his predecessor— including his death.
Putting himself at the Royal Family\'s feet, he would also keep a close eye on those who had a tight relationship with Spirits who saw the \'Dark Sage\' as their savior.
The fact that the Crown Princess was not with the people from the Montgomeray watching the Material Gathering did not mean they were not being watched. Besides, two of the Royal Army Deputy Marshals were present.
In any case, Kyran wondered if the Spirits had a way of confirming his real identity. He might possess the Shaiha, but because he had yet to understand what it could really do and hide, there was no saying that the Spirits had no way of bypassing the Shaiha\'s concealment.
\'I\'m sure Lumi already sent news to the Spirits about me,\' Kyran thought. He paused for a second after recalling something and shook his head, \'No. They already know about me even before I was born. So even if Lumi say nothing, they already know me, but...\'
He turned his head slightly to his left and was taken aback when he caught a man with long dark-violet hair seemingly looking in his direction.
Before Kyran could decide whether the man was really looking at him or not, the man nodded his head slightly as if in greeting.
To show Kyran thought nothing of it, he returned the greeting and also nodded, before looking away.
This exchange was witnessed by Callan and Vaness.
Even the mercenaries behind who were observing the three since their arrival saw it and could not help but look furtively in the Montgomeray\'s direction.
Dante, who was one of the mercenaries who fought them yesterday frowned slightly. The truth, among the Three Noble Families, he did not want to face the Montgomeray Family. After all, he was still part of the Mavin Family who were connected to Spirits. Their family was a small one and since he was only a branch family and did not inherit any fae blood, he could not summon or see Spirits. In the end, he chose to be a mercenary and not burden his family for being \'useless.\'
Anyway, that was the only reason why he did not like to face the Montgomeray. It was not because he harbored any ill intentions.
Seeing the exchange between Kyran and one of the Montgomeray members, who appeared to be one of their leaders, Dante suddenly recalled how one of their members had asked if he was close to Tyr, after the match.
Dante did not reply but only look at the member.
When he returned to the locker room with the rest of the mercenaries, Ghid, a lanky man wearing tight-fitting overalls underneath the uniform coat President gave them, asked why Dante looked at the Montgomeray member earlier.
It was only then that Dante realized that particular member did not speak to him directly, but likely, telepathically. If it was true, then what was that person\'s real magic level? And why was he interested in Tyr?
Dante immediately ridiculed himself after thinking about the second question. After all the things Tyr had done this past week or so, it was almost hard to find someone who was not interested in him.
Nevertheless, Dante felt there was more to why the Montgomeray was interested in Tyr. As a mercenary with at least eight years of experience under his belt, he was positive about this.
And seeing how the leader of the Montgomeray still kept on looking at Tyr, even after the latter turned away was proof.
Dante took a slow deep breath and resolved to tell Tyr about it. He did not think much of it yesterday and did not seek him out, but now, he had an inkling something was brewing.
Apart from this, the Conclave would be facing the Montgomeray Family in the Solo Competition tomorrow. There was no harm in advising his team member to be on guard.
"They are," Callan said after a somewhat long pause after Kyran\'s short realization about the Dinaeri Family.
"Is there anything wrong about that?"
"Nothing," Kyran replied looking at him with a wry smile. "I just found it stupid of me to forget about that."
"If I remember correctly," Vaness chimed in. "Your mother used to be a Summoner."
Kyran nodded and looked at him, "Yes. Although, I am not sure if I inherited her ability to see Spirits. Because as far as I remember, Lumi is the only Spirit I have ever seen, and she was not even trying to hide her presence that time."
Vaness furrowed his brows in contemplation and said, "I met the Montgomeray Patriarch once— if I remember it correctly, it was two years ago. That time they had requested a number of rare materials and I suggested asking the Mercenary Hall\'s assistance in securing some of them."
He looked at Callan as if to confirm what he said.
Callan raised his brows, his expression lit up as he recalled that time, "Ah, yes. I remembered that. Because most materials needed a group with at least a High Master mage, I had to ask Chairman Hugh\'s opinion on the matter. In the end, he went to the Chamber of Commerce and the three of you negotiated."
Vaness nodded, "The truth, he asked Chairman Hugh something strange at that time. We both did not think much of it, because as far as we are concerned, it was only idle chat. But I\'ll let you decide whether it really is just that. "
He looked at Kyran before continuing, "The Montgomeray Patriarch asked us if there are others who had the same requests as he did. If yes, he wanted the same group that collected the materials to be the ones to collect it again."
Kyran did not need Vaness to explain the rest. With just his words, he already saw the things Vaness did not say.
The group who looked for those materials was likely from his Clan. From what Stella had told Kyran, and based on what Celine had first explained about the relationship between the Conclave and the Regis was; when a request for materials was impossible for a mercenary to accomplish, they would ask the Regis Clan\'s help.
If this was happened, there were probably instances where the client would request to speak with the people who the Mercenary Hall assigned their request.
Did that mean the Montgomeray Family was trying to establish contact with the Regis Clan? If yes, then why?
No, it was not necessary that the Montgomeray was talking about the Regis. After all, no one was aware of the relationship between the Conclave and the Regis Clan.
In any case, what the Montgomeray Patriarch asked might only be idle chat and they "might be reading too much into it.
\'But there may be something,\' Kyran thought. There was no harm in investigating the matter.
"Thank you for telling me," he told Vaness before looking at the projection in front of them. "I\'ll keep that in mind for now. In any case, I only have speculation of their status from all this. I don\'t want to jump to any conclusions without looking through it."
"Of course," Vaness agreed. "That is for the best."
The two also looked at the projection.
"Anyway, this event will take some time to complete. Are you sure it is alright for you to stay?" Vaness asked. He also knew Kyran had to participate in Array Creation later.
Kyran might be gifted, but he did say he was not omnipotent and that he still gets exhausted. With all the thinking and preparation he had done to help the Conclave since the day before yesterday, he was worried he had overworked himself already.
"Yes, I am fine. I have rested enough. Besides, I want to keep an eye on... you know. Just in case," Kyran replied with a bitter smile.
Vaness and Callan chuckled. Both knowing perfectly well who or \'what\' he meant.
