Chapter 4: Being Treated Like a Murderer
Chapter 4
Xia Miaomiao looked over his attire: "The clothes he\'s wearing don\'t look cheap!"
She plucked up her courage to squat down and feel the fabric at the man\'s waist: "Fine silk satin, with intricate embroidery work. He must have been from a wealthy household around here."
Xiao Han felt quite uneasy being stared at by the dead man\'s unclosed eyes. She tried to pull his eyelids down but they wouldn\'t budge.
So she grabbed some leaves off the ground and simply covered his eyes.
"Sorry uncle, it\'s not that we didn\'t want to save you, it\'s just that you were too far gone already!"
"Xiao Han, let\'s get out of here quick!" said Xia Miaomiao as she stood up. "We need to find Xuexue and the others first and foremost!"
Xia Miaomiao really didn\'t want to face a corpse in the dead of night after everything that had already happened that day. It was all beyond her comprehension!
They had to find Xuexue and the gang fast, and figure out a way to get back to their own world!
"Yeah."
Just as the two girls were about to leave, sounds suddenly emanated from behind them.
"Search carefully! The sounds came from over here!"
Hearing the voices, Xiao Han\'s face lit up: "People are here! We can ask them about the situation and maybe beg them to put us up for the night!"
"Hey! There\'s a dead person over here, come quick and take a...mmpf!"
Xia Miaomiao quickly covered her mouth, but it seemed too late.
"There are sounds over there!" Several men holding torches came running over.
Seeing the two girls dressed so oddly, the man leading the group in gray robes looked them up and down curiously.
Xia Miaomiao was wearing a very ethereal, lady-like dress, loosely fitted but with a bubble top and short sleeves.
Her honey brown hair was lightly permed, tied up in a big fluffy bun.
Xiao Han on the other hand wore tight fitted jeans and a knitted tank top.
Although dressed simply, her waist-hip ratio suited jeans perfectly.
Her hair was just tied in a casual low ponytail, medium in length, no perms or dyes, no particular styling.
"Brother, brother!" Xiao Han casually went up to the man in gray and grabbed his arm.
"You came at just the right time, there\'s a dead person over there!" Xiao Han pointed to the area behind them.
The man in gray silently glanced at Xiao Han\'s hand on his arm, then withdrew it.
He then turned to his men and instructed: "Go take a look!"
Two of them walked over while Xia Miaomiao couldn\'t help taking a few steps aside.
"It\'s old Master Bai!!!" one exclaimed in horror as he turned to look at Fang Qing.
"What?!" Fang Qing immediately rushed over.
Feeling old Master Bai\'s wrist for a pulse, his pupils shook violently.
He\'s dead!
Fang Qing clenched his fist tightly. "Hurry to the Bai residence and inform Uncle Fu!"
"Yes!" One man immediately ran off.
"Brother, did you know that man?" Xiao Han asked.
"Just who exactly are you two?" Fang Qing glared at them. "Why were you on the hills behind the Bai residence?!"
Xia Miaomiao quickly pulled Xiao Han by the arm. This man seemed fierce...
"We were..."
Xiao Han really didn\'t know how to explain it to him.
"We fell from the sky, believe it or not?" Xiao Han tried.
In a flash Fang Qing whipped out his blade and held it to Xiao Han\'s neck.
Xia Miaomiao and Xiao Han instantly felt their legs turn soft.
Xiao Han glanced at the blade on her neck. Dang, this is real!
"Brother, let\'s talk nicely...the sword is blind!"
"Quit the nonsense, did you kill Master Bai?!" Fang Qing furiously questioned them.
Xiao Han was instantly rendered speechless.
"No...you got the wrong girls! How could weak damsels like us possibly commit murder?!
When we got here he was already dead from a slit throat! If we killed him why would I call you guys over?!"
It seemed Fang Qing felt she made sense, and after a long pause finally sheathed his sword.
"Then who exactly are you and why are you here?!"
"We..." Just as Xiao Han was figuring out how to explain it to him.
"Bro brother, we\'re here...looking for relatives..." Xia Miaomiao stammered softly, tears brimming her eyes looking helpless and pitiful.
"My friend and I are from a place very very far away..." Xia Miaomiao continued solftly.
"After some changes back home, there\'s barely any family left. So we decided to come here together.
But we\'re unfamiliar with this place, and wandered for months before arriving. Yet we lost our way, and had nowhere to stay.
We were just hoping to lodge somewhere for the night, then we met that Master Bai you mentioned."
Xiao Han secretly gave Xia Miaomiao a thumbs up from behind. Nicely played!
Seeing Xia Miaomiao so helpless and frail, Fang Qing\'s doubts dissolved by more than half.
Seeing it worked on Fang Qing, Xiao Han pretended to bawl loudly as she hugged Fang Qing\'s arm.
"Brother! My friend and I are all alone. Bandits robbed us during our search! We barely made it here by foot. You must help us!"
"Look how destitute we are, with nothing left to cover our bodies!" Xiao Han waved her fair arms before him.
"Ehem ehem..." Fang Qing deliberately coughed twice, his face slightly flushed. Fortunately it was nighttime and too dark to see.
He turned his gaze away pointedly. "Miss, please behave yourself!"
Xiao Han put her hands down, pretend wiping her actually tearless eyes. "Brother, you must believe us, we frail girls could never commit murder!"
"It doesn\'t matter if I believe you or not, you\'ll have to convince Uncle Fu when he arrives!" Fang Qing maintained his official tone.
As a guard of the Bai family, his beliefs were irrelevant.
After waiting a while, Steward Wang Fu hurriedly arrived with his men.
Seeing the steward, Fang Qing promptly went up to greet him.
"Uncle Fu, old Master Bai has died!"
Without a word Wang Fu rushed over to check old Master Bai\'s pulse and breathing.
"Old Master..." Wang Fu clenched his fist tightly, glaring furiously as he turned to Fang Qing. "Who did this?!"
"Don\'t know...these two girls discovered the body!" Fang Qing pointed to Xia Miaomiao and Xiao Han.
Sensing the immense killing aura emanating from Wang Fu\'s body, the girls didn\'t even dare speak loudly!
"Uncle...he was already dead when we found him..."
Wang Fu walked right up to Xiao Han, about the same age as old Master Bai, probably in his forties.
Staring at her, he suddenly reached out and grabbed Xiao Han\'s arm, twisting it around.
"Ah!...It hurts, it hurts!" Xiao Han felt her arm nearly snapping.
Xia Miaomiao panicked helplessly as tears instantly flooded out.
"Uncle please let my friend go! We\'re speaking the truth, old Master Bai wasn\'t killed by us!"
Wang Fu could already tell Xiao Han had no martial arts nor inner energy, he only wanted to test her reaction.
He loosened his grip a little and looked over their strange garments.
"Take them to the Bai residence for interrogation!"
"Yes!"
Still fuming, Xiao Han wanted to protest but Xia Miaomiao pulled her hand, shaking her tearful head to stop her.
Getting the hint, Xiao Han obediently kept silent.
Being brought to the Bai family was still better than spending the night exposed in the deep woods.
They had to figure out first just where they had transmigrated to!
And so Xiao Han and Xia Miaomiao were taken to the fuel woodshed of the Bai family residence.
