Chapter 398: Do you wish to learn the Three Great Laws?
Chapter 398: Do you wish to learn the Three Great Laws?
Too bad Duabi was so unlucky. The expert Yujiang happened to have a bellyful of fire that he had no way of venting, and Duabi happened to pop out and even throw a powerful electromagnetic bomb in his face.
Duabi’s original intention had simply been to force the Impaler out of stealth and, thus, capture Xia Fei alive. How was he supposed to know that Xia Fei was not alone, but that there were also two superbeings, who had grasped the Law of Space, onboard the ship?
The bomb was a powerful weapon, no doubt, and this bomb, which was trying to incapacitate the Impaler, had been viewed as an attack by the powerhouse Yujiang, instead! That was why he did not even spare a moment of thought and retaliated at this interloper!
All he did was wave his arm, and the entire space around them suddenly turned black, while the distant starlights had all but disappeared!
Xia Fei was stunned. This was the legendary ‘a hand to hold up the sky’!
‘To actually dare strike against me! Truly, they must be tired of living!’ Yujiang thought to himself bitterly.
*Whoosh!*
In about a second, everything in space went back to normal. The soft blue glow from the nebula and the twinkling of distant stars had all returned to normal, though that insectoid battleship was nowhere to be found.
...
Some tens of thousand lightyears away from Xia Fei’s Impaler, uni-horned green bats had gathered by a small asteroid chatting.
Bats were among the creatures in this entire universe with the greatest adaptability. They could survive in the nearly airless cosmos, relying on the trace elements floating in space to replenish their strength.
There were about thirty Unihorned Green Bats in this pack, and they were rather fortunate. Several years ago, they happened to have chanced upon a passing insectoid cargo ship which became their food, and though the insectoid meat was not exactly delicious, it was at least better than dry rocks. Ever since that time, this pack of monsters that lived in space could never forget the taste of flesh and blood, and they had always been hoping for a day when some insectoids could be sent to their mouths again.
They had a large wingspan of over five hundred meters! Though they were more than a single-grade lower than that Black Star Phantom Bat Xia Fei had seen before, they were still considered to be quite vicious exotic beasts in this universe.
All of a sudden!
This area of space turned pitch-black, blocking out the surroundings in an instant!
The Unihorned Green Bats had all huddled together, using their bodies to cover one another. They were all trembling, for their animal instincts had sensed a tremendous energy being unleashed.
In the span of several seconds, the familiar surroundings that the Unihorned Green Bats called home had all but disappeared!
A humongous insectoid battleship appeared right before their very eyes!
The warship had a ferocious outer appearance, but these notorious Unihorned Green Bats were not in the least bit afraid. That was because their keen sense of smell had picked up the scent of fresh blood!
Inside the warship, Duabi’s two eyes were wide open.
“Where are we? Just where in the universe are we!”
Nobody in that command deck said a word. Everyone was holding their breath, staring at those vicious exotic beasts outside!
“Just what the heck is going on?” Duabi had hysterically grabbed a soldier off his seat and angrily grilled him.
There was no way that this soldier would know how the warship had gotten there, allowing Duabi to toss him to the side without uttering another word.
“Guildmaster, the radar is indicating that we’ve entered the mammoth region!” shrieked a soldier, on the verge of tears.
Duabi was stunned. The mammoth region was near the borders of the insectoid territory, where exotic beasts gathered in droves. Plenty of ferocious exotic beasts lived there, while the space environment around here was more complex. Many from the insectoid race would hunt rare beasts out here, only to end up empty-handed. It was listed as one of the most dangerous star regions in the insectoid territory!
Duabi was tearing at his hair, trying to calm himself down. They had just been pursuing that human warrior moments ago, yet they were now in the dangerous mammoth region in the blink of an eye. He simply could not make any sense of this!
“We don’t have much time. Those Unihorned Green Bats are about to start their attack. Goxan, Kikiger, Twelve Wing—all of you, follow me! Prepare to charge out and get ready for a space battle!” Laresh ordered.
“We might be able to utilize our snap-jump to leave this place!” called Dubai, feeling alarmed.
However, just as he said that, that pack of Unihorned Green Bats came charging over rather menacingly! The scent of fresh blood had made these creatures frenzied and reckless!
“There’s no time for that anymore,” Laresh said in a low voice.
A space battle required the use of combat suits, which were different from what warriors usually used. Aside from defense, a space combat suit would need to have a powerful air supply fitted.
Fifteen top insectoid warriors boarded a shuttle and flew out in space after changing uniforms, each defending a corner as they engaged in a desperate battle with the pack of Unihorned Green Bats!
Right now, it was critical for them to protect the warship from getting damaged, or else they might be unable to leave this dangerous space.
...
The Unihorned Green Bats were creatures that came in packs, and this pitched battle drew even more exotic beasts into joining.
This fight lasted two days and nights!
There were fifteen top insectoid warriors when they first set off, but only Laresh managed to return, and his right arm had even been crushed by a vicious Unihorned Green Bat! He barely managed to cling on to his life, fainting the moment he stepped back into the warship.
Duabi knew very well how bad luck came in droves.
He collapsed in his chair, completely pale. He was already drenched in his sweat.
Even any trace of Xia Fei had disappeared. Out of the three Scared Champions, two died and one was heavily injured. His elite Twelve Wings had also been decimated!
Dubai had been struck by great misfortune, and what made it worse was that he still had no idea how he could escape from the beast-infested mammoth region.
Spitting, the superstitious Duabi was beginning to feel that Xia Fei was the reaper the gods had sent to punish him! He was a jinx that would bring calamity to whomever he met.
....
The Impaler.
Xia Fei had no idea what beset Duabi; he was still reeling in shock over how Yujiang had turned the entire battleship into nothingness with a wave of his arm.
“That might very well be the ultimate skill after mastering the Law of Space. While that wave of his arm looked casual, there’s actually an immense burst of energy that surged out from his hand,” Phantom quietly told Xia Fei.
Yujiang burst out laughing, stroking his beard with one hand, as if he had been very satisfied with that one move of his.
Xia Fei slightly bent his back as he smiled. “Elder sure is skilled beyond belief. This young one is dumbfounded after seeing that display of strength. Truly, I, Xia Fei, haven’t lived my life in vain to have witnessed such a sight.”
Flattery was welcome no matter where it was used, and Yujiang of course nodded delightfully. Even the incident of disrespect Xia Fei had demonstrated moments before was tossed at the back of his mind. Meanwhile, Yuhua was silently delighted. He realized that Xia Fei was a fellow practitioner, whose skill at flattery was no less than his own.
With tea and snacks all served, Xia Fei lowered himself and acted completely respectful, offering tea or pouring liquor, beseeching Yujiang for advice with much humility.
When dealing with such elders, who were both well in their years and of such high stature, Xia Fei had his set of experiences. These old monsters would often meet too many types of people, and purely flattering them might not achieve any great result. It was far better to seek their advice earnestly.
Only by asking them for advice and teachings would it exemplify how outstanding and profound their cultivation was. It would hardly be effective if he had simply flattered them without asking for advice.
Yujiang was originally the sort who did not enjoy advising the younger generation because there were simply too many of them in the family. If he were to teach them one by one, who knew how much time he would have to spend on this? The bigger the family, the more severe the infighting. Instructing one and not another would result in him being accused of favoritism, and that was not ideal.
Now that Xia Fei was so humbly requesting advice, it aroused the old man’s sense of heroism, so he casually replied to a few of Xia Fei’s questions.
Changing the topic, Yujiang looked at Xia Fei and asked, “That move I just did isn’t really anything great. Would you like to learn the Law of Space?”
Actually, Yujiang had taken a little shine on Xia Fei. After all, the young man’s agile mind was even better than Yuhua’s on top of having a silver tongue. In truth, Yujiang was somewhat upset over Yuhua’s choice to become a businessman back then.
The only unfortunate fact was that Xia Fei’s seventh brain region was badly damaged, making him no better than a cripple, so Yujiang was only tempting him to work hard for his family now.
Xia Fei nodded. “Elder, Xia Fei is of course willing to learn the Law of Space if given the chance, but it’s a pity that I’ve never had the chance before.”
Yujiang laughed loudly. “There’s one right here. I realized that you’re smart and quite talented. Since this old man is in a good mood right now, I’ll give you this chance today; if you agree to join my Yu family, I’ll teach you the Three Great Laws!”
He only said that he was ready to teach Xia Fei, not that he was guaranteeing that the latter would really learn and grasp the knowledge. Actually, Yujiang knew in his heart that Xia Fei was already nearing the limit of his cultivation, and there was no way he could learn the Three Great Laws.
Beside him, Yujua was providing additional embellishment. “Xia Fei, quickly pay your respect to the family patriarch! This is a rare opportunity that shan’t be missed. Many beg with their whole lives yet are never given the chance to learn the Three Great Laws!”
Yujiang smiled as he stroked his long beard. His eyes glancing at Furball time and again. In his mind, there was no way that Xia Fei would be able to withstand the temptation to join his family, so the holy beast Shatterstar would be as good as his!
Xia Fei merely smiled as he bowed respectfully. “Elder, Xia Fei does indeed have the wish to learn the Three Great Laws, but I’m really unable to go anywhere right now.”
Yujiang froze, his expression changing! He never would have thought that Xia Fei would actually reject him!
“Say that again?”
“Esteemed elder, Xia Fei can’t follow you right now,” reiterated Xia Fei firmly, neither subservient nor overbearing.
Next to them, Yuhua pouted. Considering the kind of character the family patriarch Yujiang had, insulting his dignity was an absolute taboo. The fact that Xia Fei dared not to show face to the elder, great tragedy was about to visit upon him this time!
“Just what reason do you have for actually giving up on the chance to learn the Three Great Laws?”Yujiang angrily demanded.
Xia Fei answered, “This young one still has matters to attend to, so I’m unable to leave for now.”
Yujiang slammed his hand on the table, and Xia Fei’s entire body flew outward uncontrollably!
“You actually refused to learn something as amazing as the Law of Space?”
“I do wish to learn it, but I truly still have other matters to attend to at the moment.”
Yujiang waved his hand once more, and the scenery around them suddenly changed into a vast and mysterious sea of stars! It was as if Xia Fei were flying out in the cosmos, and he could even feel a wave of cold creeping across his skin and seeping into his bones!
“Mastering the Law of Space means grasping this boundless universe. Do you still reject the offer?”
“Elder, Xia Fei’s response is still the same. I do wish to learn, but I truly have important matters and people who are waiting for me. If you wish, Xia Fei can come look for you in a few years’ time.”
Yujiang was enraged!
“I am a Master of Law, yet you actually wanted me to wait for you!”
*Whoosh!*
The space changed yet again!
This time, Xia Fei was actually right next to a murky black hole!
The gravitational force was so immense that it was trying to tear his body apart!
“Let me ask you once more!”
“Even if you ask me a thousand times, ten thousand times, my answer will still be the same.” Xia Fei smiled.
His personality was like a spring; the greater the pressure on it, the more tightly coiled it would become. Yujiang forcing Xia Fei only made his obstinate nature come to bear the brunt for some reason! Gritting his teeth, Xia Fei ignored this angry glare Yujiang was throwing at him.
