Chapter 423 Before The Gods (3)
Argus Newmont stared dumbfounded at the man before him. The man with bright blue eyes and gunmetal hair that shimmered in the night\'s darkness was eye catching and captivating. He had a regal bearing that made people want to bow their heads and fall to their knees.
The Dark Elf was stunned and caught off guard, causing him to lack what to say for the next few moments. But he soon regained his composure and held up his spear.
"I asked you a question. Your identity and purpose!" He pressed forward.
Thud!
A dark shadow landed between Argus and Michael. The dust cleared to reveal Nero\'s figure. The Berserker bowed his head in respect and spoke up. He turned to Argus and addressed him.
"This is my Master\'s backer and benefactor. Let him pass." Nero spoke with a tone that brooked no argument at all.
"I-I see." Argus lowered his spear and took a step back. "Well, follow me, then." Argus said and cast a glance to the others. He passed a mental message for them to remain on their toes for any suspicious activities. He honestly did not trust Leon\'s summons and any other person deeply associated with them, but the higher ups of the rebel army depended on and trusted them greatly, so he had no choice in the matter.
Michael and Nero followed behind Argus, with Nero a step behind Michael. The Major Fate God turned to Nero and spoke up.
"Your master is currently busy with certain matters that are important to his future. I cannot say when he will return, but it will take a long time. Keep growing stronger. This is the best time for you to reach the peak of what is possible in the mortal realm and keep up with your master." Michael told Nero.
"The master won\'t be back? Why did he not tell us?" Nero asked with doubt. Normally, Leon kept them appraised of any situation where he had to quickly disappear. Even the time when Garrix had captured him so suddenly, he had been able to let them know in time before all communication was cut off.
"Yes. He is undergoing a trial that will set him up well for his ascension to Godhood. He did not tell you because he does not yet possess the ability to communicate across realms. As for when he will be back... Well, let\'s just keep an open mind." Michael patted Nero\'s shoulder and turned ahead. He was aware that Nero was sharing this information with Leon\'s other summons and Nedra.
They walked in silence and before long, Argus brought Michael and Nero to a central building in the camp where the higher ups of the army were gathered. News of his arrival and request had already reached them.
Argus stopped outside and Nero took over, leading Michael into the meeting room. There were a dozen figures already standing there. Their eyes immediately moved over to Michael when he stepped into the meeting room. At the head of the central rectangular table, Vera\'s clone stood straighter upon setting eyes on Michael.
"Your Excellency! It is our honor to be graced by your presence!" Vera had read a lot and knew what it felt like to be in the presence of a God. She had visited several temples that were spread across Rivera when she was younger, and she would never forget the feeling that she had felt when a God descended upon an Oracle in the temple.
"Someone recognizes who I am. Hmm..." Michael nodded with a neutral expression as he stepped into the room. He looked around and took in the figures around. Everyone here was a Peak A rank without exception, and their lifeforces were brimming with energy, showing that they still had a little bit of untapped potential left within them.
"We extend our greetings, Your Excellency." The others also realized that Michael was no simple figure and did as Vera did, bowing their heads and showing their respect.
"Rise. I did not come here to impose myself on you." Michael waved his hands and all their bodies rose and straightened. He dropped his arms, then folded them at his back before continuing. "The reason I have come here is because of the war that your mortals are currently engaging in. I understand that you have enlisted the aide of someone that is connected to myself, Leon Cromwell."
Upon hearing Michael\'s words, Vera\'s eyes snapped wide open. She finally understood why someone of Michael\'s status would descend and show himself to them, instead of sending an Oracle to them. It was because of Leon!
"Yes, Your Excellency. We are currently cooperating with Leon Cromwell in order to ensure the success of our goals. I hope our actions have not offended you." Vera responded.
"Oh, no. Not at all. I am simply here to tell you that Leon will be unavailable personally for the remaining duration of the war. Or rather, until further notice." Michael said.
Vera\'s heart dropped when she heard that Leon would no longer be available for the rest of the war. Would that not mean that his Undead Army would also be pulling back? They would lose a lot of combat power, as well as much of the basis of their confidence in starting the war so early.
Michael noticed the change even though the Elven Princess managed to keep her facial expressions and bodily reactions the same as before. He inwardly snickered before speaking up again.
"But there is no need to worry. As I will be taking Leon away for now, I will send someone else to take over the pivotal role that he had been occupying." Michael said slowly. He intentionally did not mention this at first so that he could see the reactions of the Elven Rebel leaders.
"Ah! I see. We are truly grateful, Your Excellency!" Vera was delighted and bowed her head to show her gratitude. The others followed after her, expressing their gratitude to Michael\'s thoughtfulness.
Meanwhile, Michael simply laughed at them. He could read their thoughts and knew that they were not half as sincere with their thanks, but he did not mind. He did not care too much about it, as it never concerned him before.
