Chapter 142 - 142 Bringing Up the Past
Shen Yin had mixed feelings as she looked at the Lian residence.
She had once felt warmth here, but when she left, she left with an unshakable determination.
But now, she was forced to return because she was worried about the old man, who had treated her with sincerity.
When the butler saw Shen Yin, he quickly gave her a look, indicating that President Lian was also inside.
Shen Yin nodded expressionlessly and asked, “Where is Grandpa Lian?”
“Old Master is in his room. I’ll bring you there.” The butler sighed and turned to bring Shen Yin upstairs.
As she walked towards the room door, Shen Yin clearly heard the Old Master roaring. The Old Master had always been kind to her and she did not recall having heard him sound so angry before.
She did not know who had angered the Old Master so much this time.
Shen Yin pushed open the door with a reproachful expression and met Lian Jing, who was about to walk out.
The moment Lian Jing saw her, a trace of disappointment flashed across his eyes. Then, he lowered his head, walked around her, and left by himself.
Shen Yin worriedly walked to the bed and held Old Master’s hand. She said with concern, “Grandpa, nothing is as important as your health now. If you don’t take good care of yourself, Nian Nian and I will worry about you.”
Shen Nian also crouched obediently by the bed. He held the Old Master’s other hand and shook it coaxingly.
Old Master Lian looked at Shen Yin guiltily. “Child, it’s all my fault. I wanted the two of you to be together, but I didn’t expect things to turn out this way.”
Shen Yin’s heart skipped a beat, and she asked uncertainly, “You… know everything?”
The Old Master nodded and sighed. “Lian Jing lost his parents when he was young. I raised him single-handedly. I thought that this child was very steady and even handed Lian Corporation over to him. I didn’t expect him to be so impulsive this time that he almost hurt you.”
Shen Yin shook her head calmly. “It’s all in the past, Grandpa Lian. The most important thing now is that you recuperate.”
“Girl.” Old Master Lian sighed. His hand that was holding hers trembled. “I know that it was that bastard Lian Jing, who bullied you. It’s all his fault, but I’m his grandfather after all. I have to speak up for him.”
Shen Yin nodded and said obediently, “Go ahead.”
Grandpa Lian turned his head and looked at the family photo on the bedside table. The corners of his eyes suddenly grew moist. He reached out a trembling hand, but his body was in so much pain that he could not turn over.
Shen Nian hurriedly placed the family photo in his hand. The Old Master looked at the photo with tears in his eyes.
In the photo, a man who looked like Lian Jing stood solemnly on the right. On the other side stood an expressionless woman. Sitting in the middle was Grandpa Lian, who was smiling warmly and was hugging his grandson.
“This is the only photo of our entire family.” The Old Master smiled bitterly and stroked his son in the photo. His voice was distant and painful. “Actually, I forced the two of them to take this family photo with me. These two people were desperately in love, but when after they got married, they quarreled non-stop.”
The Old Master’s voice gradually trailed off, and his eyes were filled with tears as he looked at the photo. “They quarreled almost every day, throwing the entire Lian residence into chaos. At that time, Lian Jing was old enough to know what was happening. Each time, he would hide behind the door in fear as his parents fought over some minor matter. Eventually their quarreling turned into fighting.”
The Old Master pointed at his forehead. “The time they fought the most violently, Lian Jing tried to stop them although he was terrified. But his mother accidentally hurt Lian Jing’s forehead. From then on, Lian Jing ignored their fights. He became numb and stopped smile. He kept everything to himself and refused to talk to anyone.”
The Old Master thought of something and chuckled. “It must be hard for you to imagine how cute Lian Jing was when he was young, right? In the past, he loved to raise small animals. He raised many furry little things and fed them personally every day. He talked to them. However, later on, when Lian Jing’s parents quarreled, they injured the dog that he had carefully raised for a long time.”
“At that time, Lian Jing was still in school. When he came back, the floor was covered with blood and th puppy was lying in a pool of blood.”
Shen Nian suddenly said in shock, “He must have been very sad, right?”
The Old Master shook his head. “I don’t know. I only know that after I came back from my business trip, all small animals had vanished. I don’t even know where Lian Jing buried that puppy.”
Shen Yin concealed the emotions in her eyes, and her voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz. “What are you trying to say?”
The Old Master sighed and patted the back of Shen Yin’s hand. “For so many years, I did not urge him to get married because he really doesn’t believe in marriage. However, after he met you, I’m sure that he changed his mind about marriage. But he was afraid.”
