Chapter 651: In My Past (part 16)

For some reason, he felt a tinge of fear while making eye contact with her.

Zaira stared at him for a good minute before concealing her mana fluctuation, turning around as she uttered coldly, “I feel that you’re telling the truth, but a Demon cannot work with us, given the state of things. So…”

“Thank you for your service.”

“Wait…” Arnark’s face convulsed in response before he stared at Zaira, “That’s it? I’ve been with you for almost five years. And what? You’re telling me this just because I’m a Demon?”

“Yeah.” Zaira didn’t express an ounce of feelings, feeling that her heart was turning cold for some reason. She only uttered one line after that, “Two minutes. If I see you here after that, I’ll consider you a spy and deal with you accordingly.”

“Ha…hahaha!” Arnark burst into laughter, tearing up as he felt that the situation was absurd, glaring at Gilthru in the end, “Are you happy now, tamed beast?”

“I don’t deserve to be happy.” Gilthru said, “But neither will a Demon like you.”

“Fine, I won’t argue with the lot of you.” Arnark stood up as he stared at everyone, “I’ll prove to be a Brave greater than all of you combined.”

“Stay!” He uttered upon seeing Gilthru and the others intending to take action on him. for a couple of seconds, everyone failed to move when Arnark used the chance to rush out of the building as he rushed into a nearby stable where a flying type Magic beast was kept, taming it using his power as a Principal Arbiter.

He took off into the air and escaped, using his status as a Brave to throw the mages stated in the various towers throughout Eonk City into confusion. They thought he was only moving out in an emergency to fulfil his duties as a Brave and hadn’t targeted him.

Back at the restaurant, Zaira glared at Gilthru, “So, are you content now? You’ve driven out my bodyguard. This is your best chance to assassinate me.”

“I’m not a Tamed Beast anymore.” Gilthru touched the tattoo on his forehead that was suppressing his emotions as he said, “If you find me an eyesore, give me the command and I’ll kill myself.”

“Do it then,” Zaira said, watching Gilthru condense a metal sword and slash his neck without hesitation.

Clang!

His sword had barely cut into his neck when it was stopped abruptly, resounding with a metal clang as a rune flashed in its path, having been the one to stop its action.

Blood leaked out of the wound on his neck, but it wasn’t severe enough to kill him yet, at least not for a few minutes before he dies out of blood loss.

“Let’s stop this foolishness first,” Khun said, having been the one to take action, glaring at Gilthru to see the over dozen spikes aiming to claim his life when the sword failed to do.

At the top of all the spikes was a rune respectively, containing a mystical power as they blocked the metal spikes, preventing Gilthru from being impaled to death.

Moreover, a couple of these runes landed on his body, sealing his power, preventing his mana from circulating in response.

The Elf appeared behind him in this duration, poking at his neck with a couple of needles that forced him into a state of unconsciousness. She then took out a potion and poured it over his wounds, healing him up as she stared at Zaira, “Why are you taking out your anger on him just because your boyfriend ended up being a Demon?”

“You know…” Zaira stared at the Elf, “The person you’re healing now was directly responsible for the fall of the Enkar Kingdom.”

The moment she heard Zaira’s words, the Elf paused in action as veins popped all over her hand in response, for she was truly pissed. Runes swirled around her, casting a beam of light on Gilthru as his memories were gradually extracted through a divination technique, playing it out.

A sea of carnage, one where Gilthru took advantage of an Elven Princess’ kindness to grasp royal secrets which were later used to destroy the Enkar Kingdom from within. Millions upon millions of Elves were slaughtered in response as most of the elites were enslaved by the Tamers among the Demon Race.

The Orcs and Goblins that formed the primary force among the Demon Army destroyed the entire kingdom in a matter of weeks, wiping out a long-standing civilisation from the face of the world.

“You’re feeling anger, right?” Zaira stated as she emitted killing intent, “My home was destroyed similarly by him. I have more than enough reasons to kill him.”

“So, what will you do? Kill him? Or see him live?” She stated slowly.

Upon seeing that the two ladies were gradually losing control over their emotions, Lorbordo the Lizardmen interjected, protecting Gilthru, understanding the usefulness of the other party.

“I’m not going to kill him, Lorbordo.” The Elf said after a while, sighing as she took a seat, “I wish to kill him, but there was a reason the Guardian God appointed him a Brave. It’s the same for Arnark too. So, I wish to…believe in them, at least until the Saint of Calamity is killed.”

“Thankfully.” Lorbordo sighed in relief as he woke up Gilthru, “You’ve survived that, man.”

“Why…did you take my side?” Gilthru wondered in confusion, “I’m pretty sure I’ve killed a good number of Lizardmen too.”

“I don’t care about that.” Lorbordo patted his back, “It’s our task to kill the Saint of Calamity. If we were to fail, every other race on this continent would either be killed or turned into a Tamed Beast. As a formed Tamed Beast, you should know very well how horrifying it is, right?”

“Yes,” Gilthru nodded, trembling in response, “My mind is still there, but I’m not myself. I always tend to give my best in everything I do, and as a Tamed Beast, that nature of mine only resulted in countless losses and destruction. But,”

He stared resolutely, looking at Zaira, “Please give me a chance. I’ll prove myself worthy of being given a second chance at life.”
