Chapter 110 - Jasmine's Father
Back in Catherine's apartment Jasmine whose phone just vibrated switched off her telephone when she saw who the caller was. She continues playing with the two people she considered her second family. She stayed there until it was afternoon.
"Uncle Qin, you don't have to see me out," Jasmine said when she saw the man stood up when she wanted to leave.
"Are you sure?" The man asked starting at Jasmine who was now on her feet.
"Yes, I am sure. I am not a stranger here so there is no need to always do this each time I visit," Jasmine said as she smiled sweetly at him.
"Uncle Qin, don't worry I will visit again before you leave for the academy. Take care of yourself. And Cat don't you dare make my Uncle Qin feel the least uncomfortable because I will make you pay for it if you do," Jasmine threatened with smiles on her face.
"Yes, Madam. I will take perfect care of your Uncle Qin," Catherine said with a huge sense of humour. Jasmine and Uncle Qin could not resist laughing.
They afterwards watched the young lady leave the apartment.
"What a nice dream I had in there but I guess now it is time to wake up to the harsh reality," Jasmine sitting inside her car mumbled as she ignited her car which her driver had left for her the previous night.
Jasmine on reaching her mansion left the car for her driver to properly parked it in the parking space. She entered the mansion afterwards.
"You guys are still here!" Jasmine remarked with surprise the moment she entered her sitting room and saw Jeff and Steve sitting on the couch with their legs crossed. The two smiled at the same time when they raise their gaze and saw her standing some distance away from them.
"Where did you go to? We have been waiting for you for hours now," Jeff complained as he faked a displeased expression.
"Yeah, we have been waiting for you since the moment we woke up. I know you did not want to spend the night with us last night but you shouldn't have left your mansion late in the night like you did," Steve agreed as his eyes followed Jasmine who approached their couch.
"Do you think I would have left my mansion for you guys if my sister's husband wasn't with you guys last night? I wouldn't have hesitated to kick the two of you out of my mansion if it wasn't for his sake so don't you guys dare accord importance to yourselves because of last night's incidence," Jasmine said as she sat in between them.
"If we are not important to you then why did you call us over last night when you needed friends?" Steve asked as he turned and stare at the lady sitting beside him.
"Yeah, Steve is right, no matter how hard you try to deny it we know that you like us a lot. You consider us your good friends," Jeff said as he beams at her.
"Stop flattering yourself guys or you might force me to do naughty things to you both," Jasmine said as she turned and cupped Jeff's face. It was at this instant that someone entered the sitting room.
Jasmine's smile gradually disappears when her eyes met the frowning face of her visitors. She let go of Jeff's cheeks and sat properly.
"Father, what are you doing here? You never told me you were coming," Jasmine said in an awkward tone before she directed a murderous glance at the leader of her security team standing just beside her father.
Steve and Jeff who were previously sitting very close to Jasmine moved away from her when they saw the elderly man in a blue suit shot them a murderous glance.
"Would I have come down here and witnessed this nonsense if you had answered all my calls since yesterday? You even had the effrontery to ignore your mother's calls too," The elderly man with some strands of grey hairs on his head said as he walked closer to the centre table.
"Jasmine, is this the reason you don't want to work in our company? Are they the reasons you go against me countless times?" Mr Avans asked as he glared daggers at the two guys.
"Father, you can insult me however you want but please leave my guests out of this," Jasmine said as she stood up and went to meet him.
"You dare speak up for them? Are you ready to go against me again for this nameless men? Is embarrassing me and your mother not enough Jasmine?" Mr Avans asked furiously.
"You rejected all the suitors your mum choose for you just because of these play toys of yours? Aren't you ashamed of yourself? You are the daughter of the Avans Group so why don't you live up to our prestige?" Mr Avans asked, his frown deepening even more. Everyone present there could see that the old man was trying his best to control his rage.
"Did you just say I should live up to our family's prestige?" Jasmine who has been trying to keep her anger in control asked.
"What prestige exactly are you talking about father? Does our family even possess any prestige? Isn't this prestige you talk about all fake....," before Jasmine could complete her words a tight slap fly across her face. Jeff and Steve's eyes almost fell out of their sockets when they saw Mr Avans slapped Jasmine. They both exchanged puzzled glances.
Jasmine who was slapped tightly across the face slowly turned to face her father with rage-filled eyes.
"Was this the prestige you were referring to, Father?" Jasmine asked coldly.
"Why should I do whatever you ask of me when you have never cared about me or my welfare and what if I reject all the suitors mum selected for me? I never liked them in the first place so why I should bother about them?" Jasmine asked sternly.
"You have always done whatsoever you do like but that ends today," Mr Avans said in a serious tone as he turned and stretched his hand towards his assistant. His assistant quickly handed him a brown envelope. Mr Avans turned and threw the envelope on the glass table.
"In that envelope contains the details of your new suitor...,"
"What?" Jasmine asked as she turned and stare at the envelope in contempt.
"Have it in mind that you must marry him and you definitely can't say no. You can't act as you have always done with your mother," Mr Avans said with a tone of finality.
"Father!" Jasmine remarked as she stares at her father's stern expression.
"Don't think you can go up against me as you have always done because this time around I will make sure that the company you love so much crumbles if you dare embarrass me once again," Mr Avans said as he turned around to leave after glaring daggers at Jeff and Steve.
"Father, you promised to leave my company alone if I got the contract so why are you going back on your words? You can't do this to me father," Jasmine said as she turned to obstruct her father.
"Two young men, if you know what is good for you, none of you will mention what happened here to anyone. Not only you but your entire generations will have to suffer if you dare utter a word of today's incident to anyone," Mr Avans threatened coldly before he walked out of the mansion.
"Even though he had given me his words, I knew he wouldn't let this slide since winning the contract was a direct slap at his face but I never thought he would go to this extent," Jasmine mumbled to herself before she walked back to the couch opposite the one the guys were sitting on.
"Isn't it just marriage? I was never planning to get married in this lifetime so getting married to whoever he picked isn't a bad idea after all," Jasmine mumbled trying to console herself. Although she tried her best to act like the forced arrange marriage wasn't a big deal, the guys could see that she wasn't cool with the marriage at all.
"Are you ok, Jasmine?" Jeff asked with a voice filled with so much concern. It was after they spoke that she recalled that the guys were there when her father arrived. She quickly put on a stern font before she raised her gaze to stare at them.
"Sorry guys for what my father said. I am sorry for making you witness the horrible side of my family," Jasmine said with a fake smile on. Although she had always put on fake smiles, this particular fake smile was very obvious that it was
forced.
"You don't have to apologise. There are always misunderstandings among family members so this doesn't affect us and if someone should apologise it should be us and not you. We put you into this mess. The matter wouldn't have escalated to this extent if we had left before you returned," Steve said with a voice filled with so much understanding.
