Vol. 9 - Chapter 440 - Let's decide on guildmaster & sub-guildmaster!

"You now need a guildmaster and sub-guildmaster... but who to choose huh."

"That\'s what happens when you pull out the top talents."

Misato interjected in response to my murmur.

Today was Thursday, the day after we held a promotion exam. We were currently in the class, and the clock was ticking recess time, and pondering the solution for this newfound problem.

Once a guild tops E-rank, they must decide on the sub-guildmaster and submit the application at ‹Guild Reception› within one week. But now that Aegis-senpai was out of the game, the ‹Arc-Arcadia› was now stuck in a dilemma.

"Isn\'t it fine to just recruit new members then? I believe there are still people who managed to reach the last interview round."

"Except we\'re in a tough time, you know. Summer vacation is right around the corner, so it\'s going to be a rough ride to recruit members now and even handle withdrawal procedures. We might sure find normal members available, but the there\'s no way to say the same for guildmasters or sub-guildmasters."

"Ah, that\'s possible."

"I bet they must have been going through their preparation for visiting home—heck, the summer vacation itself starts the day after tomorrow. There\'s no time to hold an interview like before, it took so many days. So we can only wait for summer vacation to end. Oh, and the shiny badge of C-rank might also help us rope in others."

\'Ho-ho, I see,\' Misato nodded as the colour of understanding dyed her face. Well, life circumstances were something I knew our professional scouter would be able to discern.

Hmm, but that aside, then it means we would have to select the top from ‹Arc-Arcadia› existing member. But could they? I mean not in a bad way, but harmonic trio are at best average in that aspect. Imagine them guiding the rest of the members from the leader position...uhm, yeah. It\'s hard to imagine.

Kairi was someone who took things seriously but she was apparently insecure about her current abilities. Yesterday\'s guild battle had further made her hesitate about herself. The dungeons with traps don\'t appear earlier than intermediate ones so there was still time before she could venture into them. It\'s the accumulative influence from so many things that was shaking her. I am sure she would regain her spirit once I trained her enough and she raked in achievement in the intermediate dungeon. Well, we just don’t have that time for now.

Alulu, too, was unsuited for the leader spot. She had the heart of a \'maker.\' Even now, she has been enthusiastically working on production of items after unlocking the ‹Twi-Tree› just a while ago. Much like Hannah. Besides, Alulu herself upholds the perspective of a disciple—a rookie, to be more precise. I heard she often hangs around Marie-senpai\'s guild or other blacksmithing guild. If I have to sum up everything about her, it\'s like the person would never step up to take any leader role unless she herself gains the skills to be called a master.

Honestly, this was just my feeling as well. I wanted her to focus more on blacksmithing than anything. Reality wasn\'t one-click and voila! game. Hannah was just another exception since her parameters were set to excel at mass production, but Alulu requires time to forge even one word.

In the end, the last remaining person was Nico, a researched with ‹Collector› profession.Do you get the hint? She boasted a profound knowledge base, and I bet she should be able to handle the guild\'s management as well. She could perhaps lead the guild to some extent, but in the end, she was still a researcher in bone instead of a leader figure. She can...or not? Honestly, she seemed to be the best option among current member lineup.

"The one who can take on the role is...Nico-chan I guess?"

"Yeah. I think I will talk with her after classes."

After a simple elimination process—not that other look viable option, I decided to ask Nico after school.

Then comes the time for classes to end. We arrived at the E-rank guild room of ‹Arc-Arcadia›, granted to them yesterday, to see her currently occupied in taking notes while looking through at an item with ‹Let Me Know-kun›. I called out to her.

"I see, or I should say I was expecting this. But I think even I might not have enough steam to push the engine. The best I can take on the role is of sub-guildmaster. I am not cut for the guildmaster, and there\'s also research I had to tend to."

"Make sense. But if you find a capable guildmaster, you wouldn\'t mind taking the post of sub-guildamster, right?"

"It would be no problem then."

"Great. I think you should get ready to take on the role then. Also, you think you can get things ready by tomorrow? I am sure we will sort by today and submit an application tomorrow. You just need to see how Aegis-senpai does things basically."

"Roger!"

Nico replied with a salute. It was quite a sharp pose.

With this, one problem was down. Now it\'s just the guildmaster we need to look for.

We left that place and headed for the ‹Eden› guild room. Misato, who had been walking alongside me, asked me in a probing tone.

"Zephyr-kun, do you already have someone in your mind?"

"Hmm, it\'s a fix. ......We can\'t suddenly bring an outsider to assume the role of guildmaster, which means we can only look for one from among us."

"Woah, you mean you\'re going to demote someone from ‹Eden› to ‹Arc-Arcadia›!?"

"No-nay, it\'s more of a dispatch than a demotion. They will take care of ‹Arc-Arcadia› on our behalf. Besides, it\'s our sub-guild, I don\'t think assuming the rank of guildmaster for it is anything demeaning. I am not saying to completely turn over."

It wasn\'t that uncommon for a parent guild to assign someone from within them to handle sub-guild affairs.

According to my sources—which is actually Aegis-senpai—Dias of ‹White Sabre› was an excellent asset in the ‹TempleSaber›, which was why he was entrusted with the matter of ‹White Saber›.

Being a guildmaster of a sub-guild had its own perk than one could think of actually. The main one would be any worthwhile achievement that a sub-guild would score under them would surely be looked in a favourable light by the academy.

The corporation or any organisation from outside never had the chance to peer at a student\'s progress except in guild battle. In that case, the Academy would be there to make sure she conveyed the best point about a student.

"Hmm, but who might step up to take that role though? I am from the NG gang by the way."

"There\'s only way to know—let\'s directly ask them. It would be great if anyone is ready."

Well, even I was not sure about my idea honestly. I was really sceptical if we would even have any volunteers—oh, we actually did find someone.

"Then I will assume that role."

"You will, Celestine, really!?"

"Certainly. Since next recruitment would mainly be for ‹Arc-Arcadia›, being a guildmaster is just the right position to overlook them. Besides, I am expecting some free time on my hand once we have ‹Helper› in the guild to manage things."

The boat to appear in the stormy sea was actually Celestine. With some condition, he was all but ready to take the headache off me.

"And the condition is?"

"It\'s nothing complicated. I was just thinking it would be great if I can still manage the ‹Eden› after assuming the post."

"Huh, just that?"

I was surprised. Apparently, he wanted to handle the ‹Eden› as well as ‹Arc-Arcadia›.

"But really, really just that? Aren\'t you going to tire yourself out."

"It\'s fine. I\'m a butler."

I see, since he\'s a butler it\'s fine? Sooooo, the actual OP job was butler all along?!

Ahem, I asked him for further explanation and apparently, most of ‹Eden› management would be done by Shizu. Plus, we would soon have few assistants to manage the piling work, so the burden wouldn\'t be that much.

"But if everything is handled, you wouldn\'t have any reason to come here, no?"

"This is something that pertains to my personal work."

"Ah-hah, gotcha (?)."

Was it the same job he had been doing since joining us? After all, he was dispatched by none other than the \'King\' of this kingdom. Hmm, but on the flip side, there seems to be no problem in transferring to another guild despite being dispatched by the King.....but if he himself was alright with the arrangement then, whatever I guess? Right, no need to poke at the sleeping lion.

In the end, while it was a bit of an up and down journey, Celestine was thus dispatched to ‹Arc-Arcadia› from ‹Eden›. With the members count refreshed once again, ‹Eden› now had a total of 18 members, while ‹Arc-Arcadia› had 7.

The following day, on Friday, Celestine submitted the transfer procedure to move into ‹Arc-Arcadia›. At the same time, he also registered to be its guildmaster, with Nico being sub-guildmaster. It was a long ride but we managed to finish all the paperwork just before heading into summer vacation.
