Chapter 141: Chaos Shop
The duo first saw the middle-aged man who used the power of the Light element, standing with his eyes closed and hands behind his back. He was the first one to arrive.
And then they heard a congratulations message in their heads before they saw letters in the sky with a countdown.
[ 10 minute-break. The details of the second Checkpoint Race will be available after the break.]
[You can buy items from Chaos Shop using Chaos Points during the break. ]

"Eh? Why do I have an extra 5000 Chaos points?" Erix asked in shock as he opened the shop function in his mind and saw the balance of 6100 Chaos points.
"I have an extra 4500 chaos points," Rin muttered, confused.
Erix should have 1100 Chaos Points since he killed 11 Chaos monsters, while Rin should have 1300 Chaos Points since she killed 13 Chaos monsters, but instead, both of them had additional Chaos points.
Other people who entered were also confused and surprised at the additional points they got.
"Hey, Space affinity guy."
Erix and Rin turned to a muscular blond braided man approaching them.
"How many extra points you got?"
The few other powerhouses who had seen Erix and Rin first also glanced there. Their ears perked up.
"Five thousand," Erix answered, not intending to hide it.
"It looks like the extra points we got were based on who killed the turtles in order. You two were the first ones to kill the golden turtles, so you got extra points according to first and second ranks," Marco said as he rubbed his chin and then nodded.
\'That does seem to be the case,\' Erix said to Rin via spirit sense.
\'These big shots will try harder in this race after knowing this extra points thing that rules didn\'t mention,\' Rin replied.
"Alright, it seems that the ranks are based on who completes the tasks first," Marco said before grinning at Rin and Erix, "Good Luck." And then left them alone.
As the other participants were also busy checking the shop and deciding what to buy, Rin and Erix also opened the shop again to spend their points.
"The shop is strange and luck-based," Rin said as she checked the shop.
"The Chaos Gadgets are limited to five per person from the shop," Erix wryly smiled. "We\'ll have to collect more by destroying Chaos Beacon whenever we get a chance."
[ Chaos Shop ]
1. Chaos Gadget: 100 Chaos points. Limit: 5.
2. Random one-time use skill scroll-Offence: 300 Chaos points.
3. Random one-time use skill scroll-Defence: 500 Chaos Points.
4. Random one-time use skill scroll-Control: 400 Chaos Points.
5. Random one-time use skill scroll-Summon: 500 Chaos Points.
—> Note 1: Random skills are all unique types of skills, unlike the usual magic formatted skill. They won\'t be affected by participants\' stats as their potency is pre-defined.
—> Note 2: These skills will not affect other participants unless you insert them into a Chaos Gadget.
\'Let\'s not save any chaos points, Rin.\'
\'Yeah.\'
\'But we missed so many Chaos Points in the first race. If we were powerful enough to protect our turtle shell from others for that 2-minute countdown while killing chaos monsters, we would have tons of points,\' Erix wryly smiled.
\'Yeah. And they spawn every ten seconds,\' Rin nodded.
\'The first checkpoint race was a bit tricky with hidden rules. A few powerful people must have definitely collected a lot of chaos points if they stayed for a whole two-minute countdown and killed chaos monsters while protecting their turtle shells.\'
\'And some don\'t care much about points, it seems,\' Erix said as he looked at Gentle Death, the tuxedo suit middle-aged man.
Gentle Death could\'ve lingered longer and collected more points, but they saw him entering the checkpoint gate after just one initial attack that killed a dozen chaos monsters.
\'Alright, let\'s finish our shopping spree. Time is ticking.\' Rin said as she bought her scrolls.
\'What are you buying?\'
\'All scrolls three times and max Chaos Gadgets. All of this cost 5600 points, so I have only 200 points left.\'
\'Alright, I\'ll do the same and buy an extra defense skill to empty my points to zero.\'
The most important thing about this shop and buying skills from it was that they must not WASTE these one-time skills by using them at the wrong times.
\'We\'ll also get Chaos Gadgest from chaos beacons in this second checkpoint, so they\'ll be the most sought things,\' Rin said, her expression serious. \'We\'ll have to get them to add more of our one-time use skills scrolls into it.\'
\'Yep. Let\'s not use these skill scrolls for monsters or other things unless absolutely necessary,\' Erix nodded.
They would need these Tier-3 skills not affected by their stats against other Noble-order powerhouses, and for that, they would need Chaos Gadget.
Because if someone attacked them with Chaos Gadget skill, the only way to defend against it would be using their Chaos Gadget inserted with a defense skill.
"Let\'s store one skill into a chaos gadget to see," Rin said as she took out a black orb glowing with faint white sparks inside."
[Chaos Gadget]
—Use 1: Touch it and activate your skill rune to insert the skill into it.
—Use 2: To insert one-time skills, open the scroll first to determine what skills you get, and then furl it again before touching the orb with it.
—Note: The chaos gadget will release the skill according to the skill\'s effect and your intention before vanishing.
Rin and Erix both opened defensive skill scrolls and got two different skills, strange skills!
Erix\'s scroll showed a skill called Water Rebound Barrier.
[Water Rebound Barrier]: Creates a barrier within a 10-meter radius of yourself that rebounds all magic projectile attacks for 1 minute and moves with you. But this barrier will completely ignore Fire-attributed attacks and physical attacks, providing no defense against them.
"So Water will be useless against fire?" Rin was speechless. "Chaotic, alright, and mine is no different."
[Shield Punk]: Conjures a three-meter tall and one-meter wide Light Brown tower shield for 1 minute that grants absolute defense against physical attacks and releases a shockwave outwards if attacked by a physical attack that changes the trajectory of projectile magic attacks. This shield will not defend against projectile magic attacks.
"It\'s fine. I\'ll attack the shield with my fists and let it release shockwaves to defend against magic attacks," Erix grinned.
"Good idea," Rin chuckled with a nod.
Both of them inserted the one-time skill scroll into their Chaos Gadget.
The countdown neared zero as Rin and Erix opened other scrolls to check what random skills they conjured beforehand.
When they finished, the countdown also hit zero, and everyone heard a notification with the details of the second Checkpoint race and a 1-minute countdown.
However, Rin\'s and Erix\'s faces immediately turned sour as they read the first line of the second checkpoint race\'s details.
